temp guage op.
It was very cold this morning (-15c) so I started the Cayenne to let her warm for a few mins before headin out and locked the door with the spare key while I ran back inside to grab coffee etc.
After driving some distance from home (10kms or so) with the beast running normal I notice the temp guage is reading full cold. Theres warm air so I know the coolant is warm.
Getting a little further down the road I gotta stop to rid myself of some aforementioned coffee, shut the engine down and on restart all gauges are normal which leaves me to conclude it didn't like being locked when it was running?
Anyone else had similar?

Sounds like a glitch. Shouldn't matter if the doors are locked or not. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it starts to happen more often.
BTW - it's no bueno to let the car idle when it's that cold. Cold starts are the highest wear times for the motor, and if you let it idle, it spends a lot of time running cold. Far better for the motor if you just jump in, and drive off easy. This way, the motor car get up to operating temp as fast as possible while spending as little time in that high-wear temp as possible. It's why it recommends doing this in the owners manual, too.

temp gauge reads zero
Check / clean the connector for the Coolant Temperature Sensor first, although it is more likely the sensor itself (part # 99760642000). It is located emgine passenger side rear at the fire wall. I've replaced mine three times over the coarse of 192,000 miles (309,000 km).

thx........shall check the sensor if the issue becomes more prevalent.
wrt driving when cold..........letting it warm up is for primarily for my wife; it was only a few minutes and was mentioned for full disclosure of symptoms as I hadn't locked it while running previously.

I was in the big city today so stopped at the dealership. They advised that as the key I normally use was in the ignition then perhaps the 'spare' key I used to lock/unlock the running vehicle had something to do with it. I need to read the owners manual more wrt programming the settings to each key (it came with 3 ).

amazingly I hadn't an issue with the guage in op until this morning when again it didn't show reading warm until restart (it wasn't that cold for us anyway -8C).
Time to look at that sensor.
