Default windshield washer fluid usage?

the owners manual shows a large capacity (+7L) but it doesn't seem to last very long before the low level warning is on.

I do enjoy the 3 nozzle per side sprayer which effectively spray the windshield and headlights but curious if others have noted the capacity not lasting for long despite moderate use.

Havent noticed any leak.

Are you sure you're not leaking it out? Check by the wheel on the ground. The filler tube is press-fit into the main reservoir, and sometimes it can leak a bit. Pull off the plastic panels and give it a good push towards the rear of the car to re-seat it if it is loose.

I haven't seen evidence of a leak although it probably disappears into the snow

thx.....I'll pull off the panels today.

Two weeks ago, I saw water coming from the right front wheel well. Took the wheel and the plastic panel off and found that it was the washer fluid container leaking where the pump is I think. Shoved it back in tight.. .and now there is a very slight leak.

Make sure you check there since you may think what you are seeing is melting snow, but it could be washer fluid. It is very easy to remove the plastic wheel well panel. Just a bunch of screws holding it in place.

Good luck.

Cheers,
-K

My washer fluid notice came on a few days ago for the first time in I don't remember how long. I put some gas in this morning and dumped in a gallon of fluid. I kept expecting it to top off, but it didn't. I didn't realize the damn reservoir took 7L!

My washer fluid light is on and it barely took a cup full. I think the system is currently frozen since the wind chills have been closer to -30 here.

The headlight washers will leak also. Drips by the wheel. Not hard to replace.

So my science question is, "Does wind chill affect the freezing point of liquids?"

ps I was NOT good at science !!

Windchill does not affect the absolute temperature, but will speed up how quickly it reaches that temp.

Only in that it'll reach it's freezing point faster with a cold windchill.

If it freezes up it can crack any number of parts in the system. Washer tank, pump's (headlights as well as windshield), etc... You cold weather guys need to use the washer fluid with alcohol in it, for winter at least.

My solution to excessive washer fluid consumption was to move back to Los angeles.

I add some antifreeze (phosphate free) in ours, but the fluid still freezes when it gets in single digit. I can never guess how much to add. LOL. Will adding a "lot" damage anything?
