Default 2006 CTTS Thoughts

Good afternoon....have mostly lurked on the forum for a while without posting. Long story short, I have a '69 911T as a sunny day car and a pretty mint 2005 330cic with all bells and whistles and only 26,000 miles.

Then I saw a 2006 CTTS with 110k miles for sale at a local Porsche dealer for $25k. 2 owners, dealer says coolant tubes have been done, but there is not much service history beyond that. No accidents, tires are 9/32 and brake pads are 5/32 and 4/32....rotors have slight lip but not terrible. Not a ton of options, but trailer hitch, sat radio, moon roof and soft look leather options with embossed crest on the headrests.

Couple questions - does that price seem fair? I have owned BMWs/Audis as daily drivers, so I am familiar with ongoing german maintenance, (as well as vintage Porsche maintenance but that is a whole nother story!)... is this car just going to blow those cars out of the water with regards to maintenance costs? I am comfortable doing straightforward jobs (brakes, plugs, coils, etc.) but bigger things I will take to an indy porsche guy nearby and just want to have an idea what to expect. Lastly, should i have serious qualms about buying this car with 110k on the clock, especially given extra boost squeezed out in the CTTS? Part of me thinks its ludicrous to consider going from a straightforward BMW with 25k to a twin turbo Cayenne with 110k on it....but I just know this car is unbelievable and I am a Porsche guy at heart....

Thanks in advance guys!
Tim

I'm new to the forums, but that's about $7k too rich. I've seen 2004-2005's going anywhere from $16-19k with miles ranging from 106-122k, and as far as I know, there's no changes in the model years until '08, so I'd keep looking around, and avoiding stealerships.

He is talking about a CTTS. They did not exist in 04-05.

Big ticket items are as follows.

Replacing the brake rotors on the CTTS will be the most expensive maintenance item you will encounter.

The transmission hydraulic solenoid module can also cost if the solenoids have worn. (Hard shifting)

Cardan shaft bearing carrier failure is another item that will need attention.

110k on a CTTS is nothing, provided the maintenance (oil changes) have been carried out. Have a compression test done for peace of mind.

I'd still have the 110k mile CTTS over a 25k mile BMW

FWIW I have an '05 CTT-E81 ($23,600 about a year and a half ago with 83k miles) and did a full brake job 6 months ago.
$2,100 in parts, relatively easy job to do.
Also coming from a BMW, but in my case a 1980 320i with over 250k miles.
Go for it. I do not regret buying this car yet.

I'd say go for it too. In my search for a ctt or ctts, I found that most 06 ctts are in the high 20s or low 30s. The one you're looking at seems about right considering the mileage. Brakes, valve body, and coolant pipes are the things to check for. You won't regret it if it's a good one. If you have the budget for it though, look for an 09 CTTS. The one I got is great! Also, an 08 CTT may be just as quick as an 06 CTTS (felt better by the seat of my pants when I was trying them out). Thank the extra displacement and dfi for that.

I bet that e46 you have is sweet. I am a big time BMW guy (I've got 6 of them!) and I find they are some of the best engineered cars around. That's why I collect them Don't expect maintenance to be nearly as cheap or easy to do on the Porsche. Porsche engineering is pretty well thought out compared to that of audi/vw/merc. etc, but it doesn't come close to BMW in terms of serviceability in my opinion.

Good luck and let us know when you get one. I'd love to see some pictures!

You might be able to get another 1 to 2k off that price. Can you get a PPI?

Those brakes seem like they're getting close to needing to be done. Figure the cardan shaft and/or control arms are likely getting close. Without records, I think you'll need to assume you'll be doing one of those soon along with the brakes. I'd budget for about 3k for brakes and control arms. At that point, you're pretty close to a 957 CTT price, and to me, that's more worth the money. The 08 has 05 CTTS power, but with more reasonable brakes, PDCC as an option, and it looks better. When I was looking for my Turbo, it seemed that there was a lot of overlap in the 06 CTTS prices and the 08 CTT prices.

Don't worry about mileage. Condition and records trumps that. I have 110K miles on my 04 CTT and it looks brand new inside.

Yeah this is kind of what I am thinking. The amount of work that would need to go into it to make it worry free, plus snow tires/rims (it would be my DD) for upcoming season is a bit eye watering. It could be done no doubt, but budget wise, it makes the most sense to hold onto my 330 for another year or so and then find a solid 957 GTS or TT with all history.

Thanks for the replies everyone...
