Default "Four wheel drive system faulty" warning

Questions:
1) Will this warning mean the car is being driven by 2 wheels?

2) Is driving with this message gonna damage anything?

3) Is this the result of something "sticking" in the AWD transfer case?

4) The warning pops up intermittently. Should I try driving in Low Range to see if everything is ok?

As above, your transfer case servo motor has died and needs replacing.
It's not the cheapest of parts new but is a simple DIY replacement.

I did mine a few weeks ago, no warning lights or error messages since.

Where can I find a deal on one and how long is the DIY install?

Weak battery could pop up the same message.

Do battery change first, might be your problem.

+1 on the battery. Also make sure you have a good ground from the Battery to in front of the seat.

#1, no. Still an AWD vehicle.
#2, dealt with mine intermittently coming on for 6 months. No biggie as far as I know.
#3, as others have said, could be the potentiometer gone bad, but check the battery first.
#4, it will not go into low range when the light comes on. Mine would come in and out fine if the light was not on but all that told me is it works sometimes.

Question, is your warning followed by a PSM Failure Workshop?

Best price I found for one new was at Jim Ellis Porsche, $713
The part code is 95562460101

I actually bought a used one from e-bay, it cost me a fraction of the new price and it's such an easy change that I figured it was worth the risk.

DIY install would take about 10 minutes if you have a ramp, took me 30 minutes but that was lying on my back under the car and generally taking my time. The toughest bit is splitting the electrical connectors, they are Tight lol

Beyond that it's a 1* difficulty job.

I'm new to the group. My '04 Cayenne S Is having the exact same issues and yes mine is stuck in low range and now the PSM Failure workshop light is on. What can it be?

+1 start the car and let it run for a few minutes than power cycle it (shut off than on) and see if you get the same message.

I would also check the connectors on the rear of the transmission for fluid buildup.

The immediate way to "unstick" the stepper motor, is to go fast into reverse anf quickly shift into neutral.....not drive! Stop car, shift into Park and shut off vehicle. Restart and you'll see the 4WD faulty warning disappear. Otherwise, you need a new battery.
