The strange thing is on the inside the exhaust volume has increased so slightly you wouldnt really notice it. These cars have a HUGE amount of sound deadening throughout which does a fantastic job. Externally though its sounds like a V8 should...you can even hear the turbo's whistling through the zorst

Just completed this mod today on a stock 05' CTT. I used 1 7/8" pipe with no tapering but think 2" would have fit more snugly. The little pipe inside the drivers side exhaust was a real pain to get off as I used a hack saw blade held by my gloved hands so it took 15 minutes of sawing with many breaks in between. I'm sure there are better ways to remove it, I just used what I had in my garage at the time.
The sound from this mod is simply amazing. It's louder and growls deeper but it's by no means obnoxious or intrusive in the cabin. Manually downshifting and letting off the gas create a nice burble that I can't get enough of.
Highly recommended as it's super easy to go back to stock if you don't like it and it costs less than $20!
Here's a link to a video I recorded of the modified exhaust: http://youtu.be/8Bl0oDBDF18

Actually, there's a significant difference between the normally aspirated "S" muffler and the Turbo muffler. I picked up a cheap "S" muffler from a salvage yard to snag some rare polished turbo square tips (instead of the common brushed finish) and secondarily, to do a comparison to the turbo muffler, because the non-turbo vehicles have a crossover in the mid-pipes, while the turbo models do no not. However, I do know at this point that there is a crossover passage in the turbo muffler; I haven't cut open the non-turbo muffler yet to check out its design.
But the difference I immediately noted was the weight. The "S" muffler, without tips and hangers, weighs 61 lbs. The turbo muffler, also without hangers and tips, only weighs 47.6 lbs., or 13.4 lbs. less. I'm assuming there's either less sound deadener in it or it uses a lighter weight case, but I don't know yet. Regardless, that's a huge difference in weight for two mufflers that outwardly appear identical in size in shape other than the diameter of the inlet pipes (66mm OD for turbo muffler, 60mm for the non-turbo muffler; i.e, about 1/4" difference in pipe diameter.).
I eventually plan to do the sound mod, but a little open muffler surgery is needed first to see how to optimize the inserts.

I did the mod also...just a little different
I used 2.25" straight pipe, one end was 2.25 OD and the other end was 2.25 ID. (Bought from Autozone) It was an 18" piece, I cut about an 1" to 1.25" of the OD end (smaller end), no taper, and inserted the cut end in first. I tapped it in about 2 inches and left enough sticking out to grab onto with pliers in case I wanted to reverse it. Don't think I will doing that anytime soon.

Just an update...On my 04 TT, I have the secondary cat delete pipes along with this mod and to me it sounds sloppy loud. Almost like doing a muffler delete. Its not a very endearing sound for this car so I am going to remove the pipes and drill holes in them to see what kind of sound I can get. Will update with pics.....

Pro
just attempted this mod this afternoon.
driver's side: got the clamp and tips off, bent up two hacksaw blades attempting to cut the little tube. I guess going to try my power drill with a hole cutter next. at least I get bits and pieces clean so that removal should be easy next time.
passenger side: could not get the bolt on clamp to budge. sprayed down with WD-40 and anti corrosion spray, gonna try that again tomorrow and stop by lowes for some penetrating rust remover.
short of these ideas, suggestions welcome. was also thinking about a sawzall with long blade too.
