Default Studded winter tires on our Cayenne

In response to a question on another thread, I thought I would start a new thread. Last fall, for the first time in over 45 years of driving, I bought studded snow tires. Our Cayenne was ok last winter with 255/55-18 Toyo all terrain tires, but we decided to go with Nokian Hakka 7 studded winter tires this year. These use a state-of-the art kind of studding, with the studs molded in when the tire is made. We went with 17 inch factory take-off wheels (from Wheel Enhancement, great service) and 235/65 tires. Around here, we drive on packed snow and ice much of the winter. The tires are a bit louder on dry pavement, and I don't know how well they will wear, but I can't express with words how great these tires work on ice and snow. Now, we have a sports car for summer and a sports car/truck for winter!

Nice! Lots of people use studded tires where I live, but I've never tried them. Studless winter tires have worked well for me so far. I'll be very interested to hear how they perform and how they last.

I have used studless snows for a long time. Here is a video comparison that is quite interesting!

Not a very good comparison. New high end studded use the same new compounds in both studded and studless versions. Same tire with and without would be a better comparison.

Updated test shows studs better. I still don't like them due to the noise and road damage inflicted.
