Default MPH vs MPG on Multi Display??

In just bought a 2008 base V6 Cayenne to drive when the snow is too deep for my 996. Nice car, so far.

One question - it seems that the computer display for fuel consumption reads 'MPH' where it should say 'MPG". When I page down thru the screens with the up/down button on the right hand stalk, that's what it says, e.g. '16 MPH'. It allows me to reset it, does everything else it is supposed to do.

Has anyone else noticed this? Thanks.

I believe that is your average speed.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a display showing instant MPG.
The PCM will show an average mpg under the trip menu.

Take a long freeway drive and see yourself get 50 mpg.

Ok. I wasn't sure. Wow, it was a slow drive home.

There is a setting in the menu for consumption. Asks user to choose km/liter, mpg/UK, and mpg/USA. Why bother, if it will not display?

Go into the menu with the stalk and you'll find it under the main menu > (the last option... I forget what it's called) > then avg cunsumption.

AFAIR there is a facility for continious consumtion in the memory.

Do you mean the computer in the PCM ( as I mention above ) or the one on the speedo display. On the speedo display under MAIN your only dislpays are ,average MPG/average MPH/Distance in miles remaining in Tank.

Yes, the display between the tach and the speedometer. In that menu, I found the setting for avg consumption. But once set up, it does not display. Using the up/down button on the right had stalk, which pages thru all of the screens, I do not find avg MPG, even though it is setup within the menu (it is under "Units" submenu).

I'm afraid that all that menu does is to allow selection of the style of unit you want to use in your display i.e.:

American
Imperial
or
Metric.

If you have the PCM, it will display it on there.

I believe this was done to have an extra option to sell you on the trip computer with nav.

^^^
Yes, lots 'really useful' goodies available on the PCM which are not available on the Multi Function Display.

Thanks everyone. I am sure there is a great reason not to display MPG - too depressing!

That will do it. Thanks to all for your help in resolving this.

It may not be available in the top level menu selection, but average consumption is available under the "Vehicle Info" menu.

Yup! There it is. I found it. Depressing. Now that I know where it is, I don't think I want to see it again!
