958 Speed ATF - change

I agree that changing the fluid earlier is better. I have a good friend that works on ZF & Aisin tranny's. He recommends no later than 60K changes on a ZF and no later than 80K on an Aisin. He say's after that it is probably best to not change it, just check the level. He say's that varnish can build up over time and changing the fluid on a relatively high mile unit can break it loose and cause it to plug a valve or orifice before it cycles through the filter. He say's he's seen high mileage units fail relatively soon after a fluid change. Just talked to him about yours and he has not done an 8 speed but figures it is pretty much the same design as the 6 speed but with better electronics involved.

Hi, I for one would like to see the write up for the Asian 8 speed transmission fluid change in the 958. If someone has a link they could share I would be most appreciative. Also the tools mentioned where do you buy them? It does not appear the specialty tool link sites sell, but just showcase them. I too feel this is something that must be done more frequently than 160,000 miles!! I have a MY13 Base and am looking at a 40K change interval. What is the part number for the fluid from VW that is the same as offered at Porsche at a most inflated price? Thanks Much! Doug

I will post how to at next flush
Tools can be ordered from Snapon ( it sells them for dealer)
~120-150 was the cost.
Fluid is Vw one I bought from P Dealer and it came in Vw bottle.
On issue is reading temperature - only tool that can do it at this moment is Piwis 2
You could use It thermometer I guess..

ndx, the Durametric can read the transmission fluid temp. I used it on my '08 S.
You can also use an immersion tip on a pyrometer, such as this one http://www.tequipment.net/TIFTIF7000.asp

Kevin,
It does not read on 958, 100% confirmed
As well as Diagun is unable to read
Only piwis 2
Older models can be done with Durametric.
I was thinking about using probe before piwis 2- it's an option
