New member here looking to get my first Porsche. I've been lurking for a while now researching my first Cayenne and absorbing as much as I can.

I decided to get a 2009 GTS manual with PDCC and panoramic roof but it's not a very common combo and I'm now forced to compromise.

I understand the main difference between the 2008 and 2009 GTS is the PCM upgrade and as nice as it sounds, I think the PDCC is more important to me.

My question is: am I losing anything more than the PCM upgrade if I settle for a 2008 or is there more to be aware of?

There is nothing substantive you will be missing. You are correct in thinking the navi was the main differentiator. Perhaps there is an additional interior color option for 2009 IIRC.

PCM is the main difference.
That, and you save a few bucks on the '08's.
I really wouldnt think of it as settling on an '08, so much as finding the right vehicle.

The stick shift and PDCC is a hard combination to find, I wouldnt let something as simple as the PCM get in the way of an otherwise perfect car.

I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything other than the PCM going back to an 2008 and I had decided that the PCM was an acceptable tradeoff to get the hard to find PDCC and manual [as Chris reasons as well].

Have you driven the manual yet? I haven't but have read multiple people complain about it being notchy and having long throws and thus not as sporty as hoped. Also for some reason the manual seems to get worse fuel economy. I love me a MT but am not sure the application in the cayenne is worth the hunt. YMMV

Not that it matters but I've got an 08 with pdcc and tip, love it. Blast to drive.

The manual Cayenne is a lot like your cross-dressing uncle Sue; a bit confused on what it's supposed to be.

First gear is hopelessly short, and second gear is a little too tall to use all the time from a dead stop.
The shifter has ridiculously long throws, and the clutch doesn't have much feel.

It is strange, and I would not recommend buying one without trying it out first.

Thanks all for the feedback. I have read a lot of the mixed feedback about the MT but I have always driven MT and am pretty sure I will get used to the quirks described. While not the same, I've driven the base model Cayenne in MT and enjoyed that so I'm trusting that the GTS will be fun to drive too.

Well I'm waiting for my new ride as its being shipped up from the CarMax in Texas where I found it. ETA is ten days!

I ended up with a 2009 manual with 49K miles on it. I got the PDCC I wanted and it's GTS red with black interior.

Can't wait to drive again after my rental Passat of the last six weeks.

Next mission is to find some winter rims and tires before snow falls.

I do like the newer PCM (3.0) much better than the 2.1 myself.
