Question 2008 Cayenne Turbo 21" wheels

I just bought an 08 Cayenne Turbo which is in great condition...but...after purchase I noticed a vibration at speeds above 60mph. When I removed the wheels I found the center collar had been "machined" and therefore was not fitting snug onto the hub. Any idea why somone would machine the center of a Cayenne wheel? And more importantly, any idea if these can be repaired so they will fit and not vibrate? I would very much appreciate any advice you may have. Help.......Thanks!!!!!!

Yes, all factory markings. Local Porsche dealer confirmed this was the source of the vibration.

Looks like you may need to obtain a new set of wheels. Not sure why anyone would machine the hub area unless they tried to put them on another vehicle with a larger hub size.

That's my guess.

Another alternative is to purchase hub centric rings. I have to use them for my winter tires and they work.

I was thinking about that, but it looks like too much of the surface is ground off. There would be nothing for the ring to grip.

It should work. Just get the right size. Wheel guys over bore their wheels all the time so they can be used on multiple types of cars. There was a nice set of 21"s from a GTS offered for sale this morning by ZSA (Steve) but they have sold now:

I was taking a closer look at your photo, is the machined area just the area that fits against the hub or is it the inside of the bore area. Does that make sense? I checked a set of wheels in my garage and they also have a mahined area that fits flush against the hub, maybe it is supposed to be this way. When the wheel is on the hub, does is have movement up and down?

Yes, most of the OEM wheels that i'm familiar with have a male collar (for lack of better words) on the hub and a female color on the wheel. When you fit the wheel on the hub it doesnt move up, down, left or right, you basically have to twist it left or right to line up the holes for the studs. My wheels collar has been machined away and therefore the wheel can move up or down when placing the wheels studs in place. Hope that makes sense.

Description makes sense, unless you can find some hubcentric rings, you will probably need new wheels. Even if you find the rings, if the machined out area is not perfect, you may still have a vibration issue. Good luck and hope you can find some rings that work.

I've ordered new wheels. Since these were machined to fit a G Wagon series Mercedes, I'm not sure what I should do with them??? Any ideas? I guess I could put them on the "classified" section and show the machining and ask for offers? Who knows, maybe someone else would know how to balance them.

You have three options:

1) If they fit the G series wagon, I would advertise them for that utilization (provided you can confirm that the offsets fit).
2) I maintain that someone could make them work with the hubcentric rings. There is a set of wheels and tires that recently sold on here for about $1500 (you can check) so you'd have to discount yours enough for somebody to do their homework with the rings and take out the cost of used tires, or alternatively
3) you co do the work yourself and sell the wheels with the rings.

What condition are the wheels in on the outside?

Quick research leads to the following hub centric wheel rings (but this should be verified):

I really don't think the hubcentric rings will work. The flange that the ring would fit into has been shaved off.
If it fits a G-class, sell them to a G-class owner.
