Water on the driver floormat after rain
Hi everyone
Have a Cayenne V6 right hand drive and today it was parked in the rain. When I opened the door the whole of the driver floor mat was full of water. Also the doors underside where it is carpeted was full of water and had water coming out of the door speaker grill. What could be the issue Thanks |
Ok and I just checked there is also water around the lever where the hood release is

I don't know the Cayennes very well, but at first thought, make sure your AC drain line is not clogged.
|
My T1 Touareg had this issue. For me it was the sunroof drain that collects in a dash plenum. It gets clogged. Dealer had to remove the headliner, too. VW now requires the drain to be cleaned every two years as part of scheduled maintenance.

Do you have a sun roof? I had the same problem, except in the rear which filed-up with water due to a poor pano roof seal. Supposedly, the is a known problem (but never acknowledged by Porsche) that was corrected in the new 958 version.

Also check your front plenum under the windshield. That clogs with leaves and flows back through the firewall.
It is very important you pull up the carpet and dry out. On the NA/EU models, the passenger side has a wire harness and electronics mounted in the floor with connectors that can get corroded. Touareg write up (the car, not me) but ours are the same for the first two Gens at least. http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f7...ins-57187.html Attachment 1206313 Attachment 1206314 Attachment 1206315 Attachment 1206316 I believe there are ones over the transmission but much harder to get too. |
Ok so how do I get to the plenum under the windshield? Also the door pad underside was wet?? Any ideas about that?

If I recall, you can remove the wipers and the plastic cowel.
However it is easier to start with the wheel wells and see how clogged those may be. As for getting in the door panel roof leak as others have mentioned. Or the plastic that is usually between the door and the panels was somehow damaged by people in there before? normally water will go down the windshield and in a door panel on most cars, but should safely drain out. There is typically a sheet of plastic that will keep rain water out of the car. However my experience, these cars are pretty tight so first guess is my bet. |
I had a similar issue with our Cayenne. Found out that the "channels" that divert water from the car to the ground (i.e. and not to the inside of the car) were plugged up with debris preventing the water from draining and thus seeping into the driver's side floor panel, where I discovered that underneath my floor mat the carpet was wet. Didn't take long to fix, dealer did it for free. No problems since.

OK so this is what I understand....I open the wheel well and check this drain.....and then I open the wipers and check below that....and do i also open the door panel? How would water get into the door? Something blocked there?

http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/at...p;d=1301531562 This is from a touareg, and most likely the same, the plastic nipple is broken off. A simple test of the pipes, I would open the sunroof and with a funnel poor water down the holes in the corners. You should see water come out somewhere in the front of the car. I believe they drain in the cowl area, but may have a direct pipe to the bottom of the car. The pipes for the back of the sunroof I would guess go through the headliner and out the channels were the rear hatch closes, so you can see the water come out there near the hinge of the roof. if that works OK, i would assume your sunroof pipes are clear, also there is a possibility you have pollen or gunk just blocking. I wouldn't stick anything down the holes as in the past on other cars, I have known people to push the hose off the nipple in the roof drain into the car or break things as shown above :). |
Ok so if these pipes are blocked how do I flush them? And also the pic you posted...where exactly is it of?
