Default Wheels from 958 fit 955?

Does anyone know or have tried to put 958 wheels on a 955? I just found out that two of my Sport Technos are slightly bent and are causing a small vibration at 70+ mph. Instead of trying to repair my wheels, I was thinking of getting some newer OEM wheels. Looks like the bolt patterns are the same and similar ET. Thanks for your help.

I have found differing information, some say center bore of 2006 hub is 71.5 and some say 71.6. Looks like the later models may be 71.6 which means it may not fit correctly.

I've only been reading and researching Cayenne stuff for ~9mo, but that has included a lot of wheel and tire material. I've never seen mention of differing center bores between models. Porsche centric is Porsche centric I think, no difference in the model year. I look forward to confirmation from one of the more experienced members.

I'm really replying to ask why bent wheels are thought to be the cause for your vibration? Even just barely out of balance tires are known to cause peppers to have a slight steering wheel vibration at 70. You might only need a rebalance, perhaps with a road force balance machine. This might be worth trying before buying new wheels.

I have just replaced the tires with a set of Continental DWS that I won at the PCA corral in Daytona this spring. I had them roadforce balanced and still have the vibration. Granted, it is not a bad vibration but just annoying enough to make me look at other options. I may take it to another shop to have them rebalanced again and see if that helps. I was able to observe the tires on the balance machine when they did the balancing and I could observe the minor bump, I too question if it is enough to cause a vibration.

I called the Porsche dealer (Pfaff Porsche in Canada) on this as I have 04 CS and I was told yes it will fit. They are both 5 x 130 bolt pattern.

My Sport Techno also had a bent in 2 of them and decided to repair them, cost was $150 for both. Now I am just looking for decent tires for all 4 rims.

Was the repair done in Canada? Look good? Do you know how they repaired? Sorry for all the questions.

If you still have problems after re-balancing, I have a set of 18" Cayenne S IIIs and tires coming off of my diesel that will be available in a couple of weeks. I also won a raffle but for a set of rims and should get them soon.

The best way to determine the bent status of your wheels is to go to a shop that has a Hunter GSP9700 RoadForce balancer. Ask them to dismount the tires from the suspected bent wheels and do a "bare rim" measurment of the radial and lateral runouts on the suspect wheels. Any runout measurement in excess of .7mm is outside of Porsche specification.

The settings on the GSP9700 may be at a slightly different spec than the Porsche spec, but it will definitely reveal which wheel(s) are possibly causing your vibration. If the runout variances are only minimally out of spec, have the shop to a RoadForce match mount, where they will match the wheel to the tire to minimize vibration. This may reduce the vibration enough to the point where you won't notice it. But it is critical that they do the RoadForce mount based on using the bare rim measurments.

I did have the tires roadforce balanced with GSP9700 and the vibration is not very noticable. They did not remove tires when it was done to check the wheels but I watched as they checked each of them with the tires on. There was only one that had a slight bend and the machine did indicate it was out of spec. The tire assembly was balanced out and appears to be ok to use. Next time I need tires, I will have them all reconditioned and repair any issues identified.

PS. I did get a set of 18" from a newer cayenne with new tires that I also had roadforce balanced and put on the car. They also had a small vibration that was worse than my 20's. I might be asking for two much when looking for no vibrations.

I put 2004 18" wheels on my 2011 cayenne with no issues (as my winter wheels/tires). I would think that the reverse would be true as well.

I've got 19" Gen 3/958 wheels on my 2004 CS. No problems to report at up to 135 mph. In Germany next month, so will test the rest of the numbers on speedo :P

Nonsense. The Bridgestone Duelers (Porsche spec N0) on my 20" factory Sport Technos are as smooth as glass and vibration-free at any speed. Just find someone who actually knows how to correctly operate a GSP9700 to its full capabilites.
