Default 2004 Cayenne S - New Owner, 2 questions

Hi All,
Ive recently bought my first Cayenne, a nice 04 S. Tiptronic, with Nav and full service history - 112,000km. Oh yeah, its a RoW spec as Im in Australia.

Question time...
I have noticed that when in Drive it never changes down into D1 when slowing down to a stop and it always starts off in D2 when setting off from a stand still.

When in Manual mode I can change down into M1 no problem.

Is this normal behaviour? It drives OK and doesnt appear to labour when stting off, but strikes me as odd.

I wondered if this was a gearbox oil / oil filter issue (long shot perhaps???), but then I read in the manual that this should only be changes at 240,000km, i.e. a long while off yet!

Any thoughts or pointers please?

Question 2. The wife uses the car to tow a horse float about. The low box and centre diff is quite useful and fully functional. I read in the manual that the car should have a rear differential lock. Mine doesnt seem to engage (LED doesnt illuminate), so question - was this an option of a factory fit? Either my LED doesnt illuminate because I dont have one, or its broken!?

Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks
Jon

D2 start is the norm.

Centre diff lock is standard; rear diff lock is an option.

Welcome Jon.
Don't wait for 240,000 km to get your fluids changed. Change them now and you'll thank me later.
PM your VIN and we can tell you what options you have fitted.

It will start in D1 if you turn PSM off, or if the engine is cold.

Is that because it never gets "cold", because of some RoW spec, or something else??

Thx
J

Not cold enough here to start in D1 either.

My turbo S will start in D1 only when it's been <45f in my garage and the motor is completely cold. If I idle for even 10 seconds it will revert back to starting in D2.

It's pretty common up here in the Rocky Mountains. Mine starts out in D1 every day.
