I've just put a deposit down on a 2004 955 Turbo with a 111 point inspection being done on Friday.

As it's a 53 plate I can also get a 12 month OPC warranty on it too for around £1000, which I feel is a bit of a no brainer. 54k miles, full OPC history, only five owners, which is low for one of these over ten years, last serviced 2000 miles ago. £14k. Mental!

Were the grilles on the Turbo colour coded as an option?

The previous owner bought a new set of 21 inch GTS wheels from Porsche in 2010 - nuts!

I'll probably cover between 5000 and 7000 miles per year and will maintain the Porsche service history as we get great discounts her on the hourly labour rate for cars 10 years old or more. Should I have an annual oil change in addition to servicing every two years, or is that overkill?

Yep I've looked into it and have been told that this is the case by my local Porsche dealar who I use regularly. Feeling OK about it at the moment as I'm having a 111 point check done by an official Porsche dealer and they will also put a 12 month Porsche warranty on it.

Looks like it's got the Advanced Off-Road Technical Package. Nice find!

With it being delivered to the first owner in October 2003, would this make it a 2004 MY car with the luck rather than yuk option fitted?

The 10th character of the VIN will tell you for sure. 3=2003, 4=2004.

Purchased my first CT in March 2003, and it was a 2004 model. The 2003's weren't in production long. I had a deposit for over a year before the Cayennes were in production -- wanted a CS with air/pasm, but all these units were reserved for the CT's because of part shortages. Ended up getting a CT from another dealer that was available, and was surprised to see it was a 2004. Still no spare tire because of second battery and big sub woofer, but turns out, never had a flat, or need to use the goop.

Boy they have issues, I have 04' CTT with 122,000 miles and have had 2 shafts, 2 sets faulty coils, motor mount crack, a/c clogging dripping water all over the interior carpet quite often (easy fix now), now the transmission valve body banging horribly, struts on the front and rear lids 2 x's, vacuum leaks (turbos), coolant lines fail then rear plastic y pipe fail (why plasitc coolant parts!!!!) I consider some maintenance and the way I drive it I'm surprised there is not more failures.

I still love the way it rides and looking to upgrade to 11' when the prices get a little more reasonable. Enjoy!

Turns out the wheels are replicas and are not TUV or CE certified, they're also made in Italy. Italy makes good pasta and opera, but not neccessarily replica wheels for a 450hp Porsche SUV.

This worries me for two reasons:

1. The quality of the wheels and their longevity.
2. According to the Porsche dealer performing the inspection; 21 inch wheels on a 955 Turbo can lead to diff, gear box or transfer box faults. From their previous experience cars that have come in with oversized wheels on with diff, gearbox faults etc the wheels have been the cause.

There's plenty more fish in the sea, so I'll look for a 2005 MY onwards Turbo as I'm not in a huge rush.

Andrew at Hamilton Grays has been brilliant through this process, very supportive, communicative and understanding. He hasn't questioned my motives for backing out and not batted an eyelid over the deposit. I've asked him to keep looking, for a late '04 onwards, as I'd like to give him my business.

I've never seen a problem caused by 21" wheels on a Cayenne. I've driven them with up to 26" wheels. As long as the tire diameter is the same front and rear, there should be no issues.

Nor have I, I would just ignore that issue until it happens, plenty of people running 22's

The engine is basically rock solid, rare cases of issues reported. The expected things are what DACBAP listed, but some may have already been done already. Age seems to be the issue with most of this stuff, I had 2 front struts replaced on my 04 also separated by 70K miles or so

I've found a low mileage 2006 Cayenne Turbo S for good money, so will give them a call in the morning. Will let you know how I get on!

I would re-visit the one at HamiltonGrays. I reckon you were too quick to dismiss it! Looked perfect to me. See above for comments on the wheels.
