Cayenne S bumper swap with turbo?
 

Got rearended last week in my 2004 cayenne S. which bumped me into a guardrail. Bot front and rear bumpers are being replaced by insurance at the body shop. I asked them if it was possible to upgrade to the turbo front and rear bumpers. They said no, becasue the brackets are different. However, Ive read that other have converted to this. Is it expensive to change the brackets? If imagine the prices for the bumpers are rather comparable. Any advice on this or something to suggest to the body shop. If its only a few hundred more dollars, I would rather have the turbo front and rear.

I have front and rear park assist and xenons with healight washers.

I don't think the rear bumper cover is different for the turbo. It does have wider cutouts for the turbo's double exhaust tips, but I think that's the only difference. If you have standard S tips, that might look funny.

I have heard of people putting the front bumper cover from a turbo onto an S. I don't think it's a difficult conversion.

I was planning on swapping the rear tips for some turbo tips anyway. Thanks for the reply. Anybody know what a set of new brackets would be to convert front bumper?

Yes. It tends to suck.

This is why I get an appraisal and get a check from my insurance company instead of sending it to one of their body shops. You get the same amount of money but then get to control the repair. Usually you can get the same job done under budget since body shops gouge insurance companies.

Long time that I want to do that too, (larger air intake should offer better cooling, i.e.: when I'm towing, (6500 pound) I tend to get overheating on uphill roads, and always felt that the turbo larger intakes should solve that, ..together with a good washing of the radiators, ..that have 100'000 miles of dried insects ! (And ..as I think, you have to dismount the front end cover to do such good cleaning !)

By the way, about the part needed, IMO, the spoiler (95550506101G2X) is the same, or at least have fixation holes 100% compatible, so, there should be no need to change it, this if you have the original one in good shape.

All those parts are needed if you want to change from base or S, to turbo bumper. Including lower spoiler, it's not the same, because of different shape of bumper.

Even if you get used bumper there is long list of needed parts, which are not cheap, especially park sensors housings.

ok after about a week, the body shop got back to me. They gave me the estimate of somewhere between 800 and 1200 for the change in parts for the turbo front and rear bumpers. Do you think that sounds right? And can I get a show of hand, if you were me, would you pull the trigger on this one, or just get the cayenne s bumpers put back on? I just bought the cayenne this year and it's only got 67k on it....

PS the rear valence has the wider outlets for the quad tip exhaust, which I'm currently looking at aftermarket tips on. They are the same fit, correct?

well... are you spending your own money? If so, have you done the coolant pipes or cardan shaft? Do you need to do a transmission service yet or change the spark plugs? I look at appearance mods as the last thing i will do. That said the turbo bumper definitely looks nice.

I would spend money on car in this order.
1. Delayed or Scheduled Maintenance or repairs/refurbs
2. Power/Performance mods (exhaust/breathing, brakes, suspension)
3. Tires / wheels
4. Appearance mods.

Conversion of the front bumper involves a good number of parts and a shop that knows how to do it. Rear bumper is a direct replacement.

I had mine fully replaced under insurance S => turbo look. Damage to the lower spoiler and the bumper from a lid that flew off a truck. I think *maybe* I paid a few hundred out of pocket to get some new mounts for the headlight washers.

Mine came out pretty good. I didn't do 100% swap, as I didn't have parking sensors, so I had those patched and smoothed out. Also the turbo ducts, I had my blanks that were already there trimmed to fit.

If I recall the turbo ducts were ridiculously expensive.

If you want a real hybrid car, I always wanted to put the GTS/Turbo rear from a 2008 and up with new tail lights. My understanding is they all bolt on.

I am waiting to get rear ended in Boston traffic till I do that one. :)

1. All major repairs were done on the car. It was a one owner with full maintenance history in a big binder. I did my homework on this one. Over the past 10k miles the coolant pipes, cardan shaft, and coils were all replaced at the Porsche dealer. Over the last 3k miles, it had the brakes, tires, oil changed and starter replaced.

2. As for the performance mods, I'm mostly looking at upgrading the intake, perhaps the secondary cat bypass (although every clip I hear online makes the car sound like crap). Any other feedback?

3. I picked up a set of OEM sport design 20" wheels with new tires off Craigslist this week.

So now I'm shooting for number 4. Appearance mods. I'm thinking the turbo front and rear bumpers, quad tips, led tails, and clear side markers should do it. Perhaps the P O R S C H E badge on the back. It came stock with badge delete and I do not want to be a wannabe with the Cayenne Turbo badge. I just like the aggressive look of the bumpers better.
