Default 40k Service Cayenne S

My 2006 S had 42k miles and I'm scheduled for the 40k service. Yes, I know, I know. The car is seven years old so this service is three years late I've taken it in my local P dealer every year for the oil change and inspection so it's not like it's been neglected Here's the issue: My local P dealer quoted $1,600 which my SA discounted to $1,500. This seems awfully high for an oil and spark plug change plus inspections of various systems. What are other dealers charging? Thanks, Dave

Just paid $1,850 for my 45k service which included a brake fluid flush. Spark plugs alone were like $350.

I was quoted similar by a dealer in Houston for an 80k service (includes plugs) on my 2005 CTT. I used a reputable Indy who did it for a little less than $900.00.

Cayenne S gets plugs at 60k miles. The V6 and the Turbo models get them at 40k.
And yes, that's a pretty high price for the service, even with plugs.

U guys are scaring me... or is this over reaction to the unknown? Are these vehicles that difficult to work on? I changed the oil on my V6. I read the info on the inet everywhere I could, and I must tell you I got spooked by the write ups and the cost of what ppl here are paying for an oil change service. So, having done oil changes on many many cars, incl my 911, I said to self, self this can't be that hard. So I bot 0W40 from meijers, got me a new filter, oil ring and washer and crawled underneath. Piece of cake, took 5 min longer than other oil changes, cuz you hafta remove the pan. Gonna R&R the tranny on the 911 in the spring to get some confidence. LOL

It's not that difficult to do plugs as far as I know. At least it only has 6-8 plugs to do. Had to do 16 on my ml430.

assuming your dealer had done nothing but change the oil for 6yrs and now they open the maintenance book and complete a full service, at full dealer prices they might charge for parts
225 spark plugs
150 3 wipers
125 oil, filter, o-ring and drain plug
100 2 engine air filters 1 cabin filter
50 for brake and hydraulic fluids
50 disposal fees
50 shop fees

and then labor, I've seen 160 for oil change labor.
let's figure 2x that for plugs 320, 100 for brake flush.
then another 100 for test drive and check other crap.
so 1430. maybe they give you a loaner or wash the thing so $1500.

on the other hand you could get parts at almost half price from sunset, sonnen or others.
none of the items listed in the maintenance book are difficult, the cayenne is easy to work on and instructions are posted on rennlist.
or find an independent who will allow you to bring in your own parts, probably get it just under 1000.

I know the S is 60k but isn't there also a time limitation (I think 4 yrs)?
I don't think plugs wear out in 4 yrs. but I suspect they're concerned about the threads seizing in the heads.

I paid $1600 last time.

Pay the extra to replace the ignition coils at the same time. They'll have them out anyway. You'd be crazy not to, and they come with a 4yr warranty now instead of 2.

I bought my car with 39,300 on it. I was given a copy of the dealers 40K service. Total $1,468 including brake flush and plugs. Service hours were listed as 7.8 at a cost of $1,014 if that helps.

Yes, 60k or 4 years. Wouldn't hurt to do them, but I wouldn't pay dealer prices. The dealer I used to work for would charge 3 hours for spark plugs on a Cayenne S, but it really only takes 45 minutes at most. The whole service can be done in less than two hours if you've got the tools.

Hey guys - thanks for all the info. I'm going to let the dealer do it since they've been very good to me over the years. Dave

After my Cayenne went out of warranty, I took it to a high end mechanice who did everything on the list, but the spark plugs. He thought it was too soon, and my bill was less tha $500.00 if I remember correctly.

Previously I took my 2004 Boxster in for it's 30,000 mile service to my Porsche dealer, and wrote a check for $1,400.00 when I returned, OUCH!
