I bought my S for a bit under $20k with 50k miles in August, but knew it needed a few things done which would cost $2~k. Coolant pipes/rear hatch shocks/pads/rotors/oil/plugs/filters/tranny&gearbox fluid were done mostly prophylactically except for the hatch shocks. I would much rather get the car for a bit less and do the work and know it was done right other than guessing it was done properly. My budget for a "pristine" example was $24k, so as I see it, not considering my sweat equity I "saved" close to $3k. So far so good...

When I bought my 911 it was pretty much the same deal. Both have been the most reliable cars I've owned.

I bought mine an 04 S for 17.5K with 63K miles. But I had to replace torque converter seal ($1200), the starter has a kazoo sound. Probably due to pipes bursting. May luck out and pipes may already has been replaced already. But so far I'm happy with the purchase.
