MY04?

MY04?
I have seen many posts here saying that MY04 cars have arrived or should arrive in next two weeks. I checked with my dealer today and he confirmed that MY04 cars will only start production in June. I had an order for a TT for May production which was supposed to be a MY03 and i changed the order to a June production for a MY04. Can anyone really confirm the posts about the MY04 production dates?

04'S are in!! All Cayenne's coming in now are 04's your dealer is incorrect.. see if you can get your May production date back... The confusion comes in because the Dealer's Computers are saying that they are 2003, but my dealer just got a 04 S in. I believe that all of the Pre-Ordered March 15 launch cars were 2003's.

I think I may have answered my own question (see above)! I was told today by the Dealer that all the cars being delivered in April are MY04. He verified this by looking at my serial number (off his computer) and said that the 10th # from the left is the model year. Can anyone verify this?

The VIN does it:

The tenth place (the VIN is 17 characters) should be a 3 for 2003 and a 4 for 2004 and so on. It's not a simple thing, a V would be a '97 and W a '98 -- the system reuses letters and numbers (except 0,o,U,I ... because they could be easily altered or misread, I guess.)
A 3 would also indicate 1973 but we're assuming there's no confusion there ... of course you might find someone with a '73 911 wearing a 2003 996 body kit in years to come ... then again, a '73 could well end up more valuable than a '03 in years to come ... just kidding ...
It seems that '03 Cayennes are being discounted enough to compensate for the resale value difference with the '04 cars.
Cheers,
