Default Brake Pads Works Shop Light and options

Ok, so the light it officially on. I wanted more of a less dust setup but afraid to lose the stopping power. I have the 2006 Base.

So what does everyone order for pads and rotors?

OEM Porsche?
Aftermarket setup?

I read through some post and seem to me that people did not like the Hawks Ceramics?

So let hear your setup, price and if you like it. I need to order something soon.

There are lots of opinions on this one. Personally, I use Porsche OEM parts. I buy them at Sunset Imports or at Suncoast Porsche Parts.

I had almost the same setup as Mudman, Zimmerman slotted, with Hawk ceramic dustless pads.

After a few months I put OEM pads back in. The OEM are softer, and create a ton of dust, but my experience with the ceramic's was that they didn't stop as quickly. Mind you, this is around town driving, speeds of 30-45 mph. I don't think the ceramics heated up enough, and thus the stopping distance was greatly extended in this type of driving. A lot of people swear by them, thus why I tried them, but wanted to offer another take on it.

BTW - You might want to think about replacing the springs and sensors while you are at it. Some people reuse, but for $40 (each), and it's your brakes, why not just put all new back on.

OH, and I got my rotors and pads here http://store.zeckhausen.com/catalog/...a95hi7ju0bkes2. Save you some time shopping and comparing prices.

I just put OEM pads, sensors and new pins/clips on my C tt S. Bought the parts from Sunset. OEM pads are stamped Pagid in the steel w/ Porsche on the backing plate. The calipers and discs are Brembo on this C tt S. Amazingly large front pads... the size of a large slice of bread. I've never seen anything like them. Literally, it was the easiest brake job I've ever done. Flushed the fluid while I was at it and it still took just two hours.

Measured the disc thickness, too. 46545 mostly highway miles on this C tt S and the back discs are have 27.6 mm left and the fronts have 37.4 to 37.6 mm left which is right on.

Now that the new sensors are on the new pads I was able to clear the "Service Now" light.

Now that the new sensors are on the new pads I was hoping that the "Service Now" light would go off... it didn't. And, my Durametric software won't clear it so it looks like I'm going to a dealer service center one way or another as I just assumed the "Service Now" light was for the brakes. Pads were worn enough.
I am thinking the service now is an actual service depending on the miles. The brake light says brake pad and then workshop. But why would the software not clear it ? I thought that is what the module is for?

I replaced the stock pads on my Touareg V10 TDI with Hawk HPS pads (same fitiment the Cayenne Turbo uses). They are certainly a very clean pad and seem to be wearing like iron but I have never been happy with the lack of bite they have and the extra pedal pressure needed to effect a stop. My wife doesn't like driving the Touareg since I put the Hawks on because she feels like the car is not going to stop. Hawk HPS pads work great as a street pad on my 993 though. If I can ever wear these Hawks out I'll probably put stock Cayenne Turbo pads on next.

Pretty sure you can go in there and disable the service now feature completely.

Search around for my durametric thread, the option is in there to disable it based on the region you are in.
