Off Road Tires
 

I am planning on putting BF Goodrich All Terrain's on for 4-wheeling trips this summer. (Yes, I really take my Cayenne off road) The smallest size they make in 18's is 265-65-18. Anyone run this size yet? I am mainly concerned about rubbing/bashing the fender liners because these tires are a few inches larger in diameter than stock.

Currently running 19 rims, picked up a set of 18 turbo's in ok shape just for this.

I am not sold on the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2's or the General Grabber AT 2 in the 255-55-18 size...my main concern is blowing out a sidewall in the middle of nowhere. I have used All Terrains for years and never had an issue. They seem to be the toughest tire option.

This is for my 2005 S with air suspension, hoping if I run it high there will be no issues.

So the 957 GTS' run 295/35/21's (and I believe you could get 22's, and you could order the same on a Turbo), with a total height of 29.12". The tire size you are talking about would give you a total height of 31.56".

My point is that from the factory you can fit a 29" total diameter tire, clearly with no issues, even on low/sport. While 31.5" is larger, I would guess that you would be fine on normal ride height and raised.

Also, For winters on one of our GTS's we run 265/60/18's, and you couldn't even tell the difference.

Thanks s4treg. You are right, the tires will clear in normal use, just concerned while off road how much the suspension will flex and possibly bash the fender liners and more. I assume the Cayenne's do not have the same articulation as my Willys Jeep. But still not sure...

Obviously a different vehicle.. but my ML has the same stock tire diameter and up to 32" will clear.

When I need replacement of my tires which fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it) wont be for a while..
I would give both of these yoko's a hard look... because they have decent tread depth, don't weigh a lot, and are H rated.

get 17's

I want to get some take off 17s and off-road but something about all leather turbo interior says don't do it......

I have 17's on my ML... so I hear you! Really I just like hooning it on dirt roads in the cayenne. For real dirty work I take the ML.

Depending on the brakes he has 17's might not clear the calipers...

Another vote for the Yoko AT-S in 265\60-18. Not as much sidewall protection as the heavy BF Goodrich, but they have very good offroad traction for an AT, and they will be much better on tarmac - equal to any HR rated all-season that I have experienced and some VR's too.

It's almost impossible to find another tire that size that is h rated and also that's as light. In the end tires are such a trade off there is no way to have it all. The yoko ats on my ml have gotten a touch louder but they are great all rounders.

Thank you for the reply's. I have an extra set of 18" turbo rims that I am using, no changing that! My experience with the BF Goodrich A/T's has been great over the years. Never had any issues. If you could see the trails I want to drive, picture dirt roads that haven't been graded in years (Thanks California...) with a lot of rocks sticking up, creeks running and plenty of "gopher holes". Not boulders but enough to ruin your day if your not careful. I have run these roads many times with A/T's with out any problems and don't want to take a chance on being miles from anywhere with a pinched sidewall. Really need a heavy duty tire.

Just want to see if anyone has experience with this size (265-65-18) and any clearance issues off road.

In terrain ride height, I would be very surprised if you could not fit up to 32's.

Well, I guess I will find out how these tires fit later this summer, just in time for some fall fishing trips. Might just paint the rims black to hide the mud.
