Cool multi purpose Porsche
I just read about the hot pepper in Pano. I think I am really warming up to this thing. It really is an impressive machine. The ability to tow 7700 lbs is an awesome feature, and even with the base V8 it should be able to easily pull that kind of a load. The adjustable hieght suspension sounds pretty cool too.
Sounds like you may actually be able to off-road the thing. This is my other vehicle vice for which I use an MB Geleandewagen. You can buy an off road package that offers a feature that disconnects the anti-sway bars to allow more wheel travel, the center diff locks and the rear is Porsches ABD, not quite a locker but, it should suffice. The suspension raises to almost 11 inches of clearance, not bad. I know most of you guys are thinking, yeah, but who will actually USE it like that, I would
Then either model has some impressive power. The TT with 450hp is going to be quick. Now you can lower the suspension and with the awesome brakes, run circles around most cars. I really do not understand the fear of seeing these at drivers ed events. I keep reading aboput how some are afraid they will be crushed by one. I don't know where you guys are from but, in my region I can't recall the last time two cars made contact. Why would you think a new Cayenne driver would be any different? He is going to have more bucks into his toy than most of the cars I see at DE. I just don't understand how you figure it is any more of a threat than anything else.
So here we have a machine capable of towing my boat and car, capable of tremendous road speeds with excellent braking and better than most cars handling. It also offers the ability to do some back country exploring. It really appears to be a seriously well rounded machine. Looks to me like they have a winner
I too would have rather seen the dollars go towards racing and sports car development but, at least when they built an SUV, they did it with a serious sense of purpose.

Great post Brent! I feel the Cayenne will be a BIG hit. Porsche will sell every one it makes, Im sure of that. The suspension system and traction control systems in the car are unbelieveable!! Cant wait for the first test drive.

After seeing more pics of the Cayenne especially side profile and the interior cockpit, it's really growing on me. Interior is way nice!!! Regards. Mike

Lets face it, guys used to looking at sports cars and trying to envision an SUV are likely to be a little disappointed at first blush. Any SUV is a goofy looking wagon on stilts IMO. The pepper fish has a pretty agressive P-car nose, and with a nice set of wheels should easily be as attractive as its competition. I like the fact that they seem to be covering a lot of bases with this model.

You are correct but you should see what Porsche do when testing 911s. I watched a Porsche special on saturday on the german channel DSF. Porsche actually have an off road test circuit near Weissach and all 911s must pass this off road test. They showed 911s from the SC and up being tested. You should see what the final test at the end is, a massive pile of dirt and the 911 is driven headlong into it to see if it can get over. None of them made it, they sort of impacted half way up and blasted the front and front wheels through and just got stuck. I am going to try and seek a copy of the video from the tv channel,

The issue of Cayennes at DE in run groups with other Porsches is that most Porsches at DEs are lowered to some degree and weigh 1/2 as much as the Cayenne. They will be hard to see around and any contact would most likely be disasterous at least to the poor chap in the sports car. While they are Porsches and they look cool and have usefulness, I would oppose them being allowed at a DE.

I would not at all have problems with the Cayenne's in De's and in terms of crash incidents-you have a higher chance of that happening on the street/highway. I 've been in De's with those hunking Ford Lightning's and it doesn't bother me or changes how I track. Regards. Mike
