Thinking of doing this in my car.
Since there are a lot of suppliers on ebay etc for a fakra rca mercedes video cable, i want to make sure I get the correct one.
Do you know the type of Fakra cable? E, Z etc?
Was thinking of trying the wireless to save on my sanity wiring from the hatch.

And a camera similar to this:

Thanks!

I don't think so. My OEM camera on my '06CTTS went out and before I replaced the carmera (in the OEM position with an aftermarket camera) I also swapped out the PCM head unit. I had to take it to Porsche to recode the PCM for the reversing camera.

Pretty sure it is a Fakra Z, so I got this 8 buck one, rather than waste $35+ on the ones that says fakra mercedes.

Well, now you guys have me intrigued! My 2008 GTS has the PCM 2.1 but whoever selected the vehicle options (it was a PCNA rep car), they did NOT choose to have the reversing camera built in (I actually believe I am thankful for that!). I had the factory reversing camera in my 2006 Cayenne Turbo and loved it.
So here is my question..... Do we have a consensus on whether the video plug *IS* installed in the rear hatch or not? Where can I look on my GTS to confirm or deny the presence of the FAKRA plug in the rear hatch?? Point me there and I will look.
A reversing camera would make it very nice and easy to back up to my trailer! And help me avoid bumping into a stray vehicle behind me. Knowing how PAG has operated in the past, I will be pleasantly surprised if they actually spent the extra $2 to "pre-wire" for a reversing camera!
Now you guys have me interested!!!

I was thinking of getting a wireless unit. Powered from behind the radio and the hatch to avoid running wires up the hatch through the hinge, roof, etc.
I have seen people run wires to add fogs on a touareg and it was a lot of work. I imagine the same if not more.

So we will all just wait for Touareg to see if the reverse camera after market install with coding works. So basically buy an aftermarket camera, get a fakra cable and hook the camera and have the dealer code it and it should work. Right?

Sad thing is all the parts will probably cost less than the 1/2 hour or so the dealer will charge to code the reverse camera on.
If I am feeling really brave (doubt it) I may just hard wire it, but we will see as this should be much easier.
Also not clear if these have LEDs or what for the light and if it will generate a code.

does anyone know the wire color for the factory reverse camera on a 955? I'm thinking of replacing the PCM w/ either alpine or kenwood HU but would like to integrate the OEM reverse cam that's on the truck now.

I have the cable, camera, but waiting on the wireless module.
Anyone have a diagram of how to remove the back hatch?
Plus here in boston, humidity has been super high, so working outside for 30 seconds causes me to sweat profusely.
I have been thinking about it, I need a switched power source in the hatch. I don't think I need a reverse line, as the camera could just run all the time rather than power on when in reverse. Want to check for heat etc. I also dont want to run a wire from the hatch to the main body of the car to tap a reverse wire. The line for the wiper should have power all the time, but I have to check how large that circuit is. However I have a feeling the best solution is to run a wire to the 12v outlet in the trunk, that should be a decent fuse on that wire and no fear of blowing a fuse while something is plugged in.
