Has anyone sat in Sport Seats

I know there not out in the US, just thought maybe someone in Europe has maybe sat in them. Im debating on ordering them, just want to make sure there as comfy in the cushion area as the regular seats.

Matt C 05-02-2003 04:09 AM

Kevin,

I don't think that they even exist yet. I haven't seen any car with them here in Europe.

I wanted them too but finally gave up and removed them from my option-list.

Kevin M. 05-02-2003 04:19 AM

Yea that is what I figured.. well they are available now, so I guess I will be the Guinea Pig, heck If I dont like them Im sure I can find someone who wants to trade for regular ones.

ngfan 05-02-2003 06:44 AM

Well, they really do exist...but not on customer cars yet. Porsche has shown these seats on different presentation cars at Geneva Auto Salon last March (you haven't been there, Matt ?) and at Leipzig Motor Show this month.

Here's a pic from Porsche's Leipzig Motor Show 2003 website (which seems to be offline already):

Some of the press cars are equipped with them as well (there were several pics in German car magazines even back in December). Even the promo car for German TV car magazine "motorvision" during Cayenne's world press presentation in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain in Nov. 2002 was equipped with these seats. The presenter loved them...
I sat in one at Geneva and although I find the standard seats pretty good I love the additional shoulder support and the firmer feel when driving fast through curves. And I like the idea to have sport seats on a Porsche. Even when it's an SUV... I am really happy that I was able to order them in the last minute before my order list is about to be closed.

BTW: Kudos to Carrera GT, Kevin M. and GM Austin for informing us about the availability of this and other options . Otherwise I would have missed the order. My dealer knew that I was after these seats from the beginning but had no clue that they became available. But after I informed him about the news on this board he confirmed them after calling the Cayenne chief dispatcher at the Leipzig factory.

Kevin, as far as I can remember  I didn't feel a difference cushionwise. When does your option list closes ? I will get mine *see my signature* and could give you instant info then.

I consider the sport seats quite a bargain compared to the comfort's. The sportys cost exactly the same as the comfort seats over here and come with the very same features (easy entry, memory etc.). So you get the "sports" characteristics of this seat for free :D . Really a rare occasion in Porsche's history...

Ngfan,

I was at the Geneva Auto-Salon, but to be honest, I didn't notice that were sport seats in these cars. There was such a crowd around the Cayennes.

Seeing your pic, I would have loved to get them but considering that I gave them up for full leather, moon roof and bose (and having my Pepper already), I think I made the right decision). Besides, the standard seats are pretty good too and the support isn't bad either.

JeffES 05-02-2003 12:42 PM

Agree that sport seats are a good thing while driving, but the downside in the Cayenne is the center rear seat position - w/sport seats it's pretty flat and very firm - I don't know that anyone would want to sit there for very long.

Matt,

you are absolutely right, no regrets necessary. I would have made the same decision. As you can see from my "Bose reviews needed" thread that I came very close to satisfy myself with Bose instead :) . But as my order wouldn't delay my delivery date any further (the air suspension was the problem here) I went after the seats instead.

JeffES,

mmmmh, I guess this rear middle seat position is a no-go on any modern European (or even US) car model. I definitely wouldn't want to sit there even in my S-class... but hey, I am the driver and not a lowly passenger in the back of the bus... :D
