Yup, that picture was big enough to make me not bother reading this thread...not about to scroll left/right/left/right to read silly rants...though I did bother to read the original post because it had some value.

Very sad to hear of your problems Bob, and I am equally sad to say (II have the non turbo version but) I also had some very serious destruction "somewhere" in the transmission due to towing what I thought was a relativly light load, based upon the rated towing load for the vehicle. It has something to do with the mechanism that splits the power between the front and rear axles, and under load this doesn't appear to be too happy with a power induced downshift. Based upon what my dealership is telling me, I expect a major recall or a reclassifiction of the allowable tow load (or both)

Scarry, but consistent with what I was told. Don't tow unless a dealer has programmed your vehicle's computer. Supposedly remaps and adjusts engine, transmission and etc. for a load. My dealer does not have the programming yet and a buddy of mine that does chips and programming did mine.

Kevin, the adapter in and of itself won't work. You may plug the adapter in an still have no trailer lights. Even with the "unavialable part" which I do have, the dealer still has to program your system.

These guys may likely have big issues with warranties if not properly programmed and I am not going to use mine until dealer programs. Thank goodness I have an older Suburban at my lake house that I can use for the time being.

Took big picture out to help read posts. I have a buddy who is a Porsche employee that audits warranty work and etc. I will try and find out from him if he knows anything.

RobertG:

Who is your dealer. I called Champion Porsche who is largest and they are unaware of the issue and unaware that any one is towing yet.

actually i saw a black Pepper towing a small 6x6' trailer yesterday. I asked 2 local dealers and they have given the number of a local fabricator of hitches.

Hi guys, great forum, I was looking at the listings and I have not had the same degree of problems with my transmission as you two guys, gladly or sadly which way you look at it, but mine is in the shop due to noises and some kind of internal binding when doing power downshifts with a load. No trailer for me, just a heavily loaded cab.

I'll post the results when I get it back from the shop.

Fact or fiction??

Spoke to my buddy who oversees/authorizes/audits warranty work for Porsche and he checked with his regional manager. Said they were unaware of any transmission failures occuring while towing and has not seen any service bulletins and etc.

Contrary to what I discerned from prior conversations, the programing that needs to occur has nothing to do with transmission and only the lights. The issue remains is this another internet hoax or am I sitting on a ticking time bomb. Only time will tell.

Robert: Hitch not the issue. My first Cayenne had no hitch and I tried to find a fabricator. The problem was no-one can tap into the computer for the lighting. Porsche has to do this so mom&pop trailer fabricators cannot. Could still tow, but without trailer lights and brakes.

I traded mine 1st Cayenne for another one that had trailer kit after going through those avenues.

I just picked up my Cayenne S on Tuesday and had the Westfalia 7 pin adapter installed and all my trailer lights work perfect.

Still need info on wiring electric brakes
