Fan remains on after shuft-off - new behavior

Gents,

We've noticed that the fan remains on after shut-off. This is a new behavior than before.

Do any of you experience something similar?

05 CTT. Al coolant pipes and T-pipes done.

Mine does this when I have been driving with the AC off and the weather is warmer.

When the AC runs, it also runs a fan to cool the condenser so it keeps the radiator cool as well. The fan you hear running is likely the engine cooling fan doing its after-run to cool the rad after shut down.

Seems normal.

Agree

Thanks. I knew it was the rad fan, just not sure if it's normal... the weather here hasn't been *too* hot at 83degF yesterday and 70s this AM.

I will experiment and XOR the AC fan by enabling AC compressor and seeing if that helps minimize duty cycle of rad fan after shut-off.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Sorry, but this New Englander sheds no tears for you. In fact, I'm jealous as hell!!! Glad you got your question answered!

Maybe you hit the switch for the Rest heater?

We hardly use the REST heater. Good point though.

heh. I was just talking to some colleagues from Ontario, Canada. I was telling them how our "cold spell" of 55degF is now gone and now we can wear shorts again.

Turn on the fans and blow some of that up here please! Actually it's supposed to be close to 60 later this week - only about 25 degrees lower than my ideal. We're getting there!...

What is the rest heater switch? My fan runs about a min before it shuts off, and its actually cold outside right now.

Hit 83 here yesterday. Hope this isn't a sign for what's to come.

My engine fan runs quite regularly after shutting off the engine.

Pete, check the owner's manual under heat & A/C. It serves as a cabin heater when the car is shut off for a few min. If people are left in the car it keeps them warm so you don't need to leave the engine running.

AC fan runs until the battery dies.

I know this is an old thread and discusses the weather more than the issues. Recently my AC fans will run after the car is turned off and continue to run after the car is turned off and will run no matter what. I can turn the AC off and the fan still blows. If I adjust the temperature for the AC it will reduce or increase the fan speed but it never stops. The only way to make it stop is to pull the 40amp fuse. #56. I am assuming it may be a relay for the fan that is stuck. I would think that this would not be continuous power though. In the meantime I am going to wire in a new relay that will de-energize the AC fan when keyed power is off.

The AC control panel (i.e. the part with the buttons) and the blower motor resistor are both known to fail and cause a runaway blower fan. Your stuck relay theory sounds plausible too.

Yes I forgot to mention that I replaced the control unit. That was my first thought was that the control unit was bad.
