Replacing Rear Hatch Shocks

Hey Guys...

I have searched, but no luck... Have any of you replaced your own rear hatch shocks? If so, is there a DIY available somewhere? I've searched here and on 6 Speed, but haven't found one.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have to do the same...I just need to get motivated...Although everytime i get wacked in the head after grocery shopping you would think it would be motivation enough!

Here is the DIY Video link

Thanks guys (and gals)! I just printed it off and when the parts arrive I will get after it. I had completely forgotten about the Renntech site... Awesome site for this sort of thing!

Just an FYI, you can get brand new OEM on ebay for $150/pair.

I don't know what Suncoast sells them for, but I'd be interested. Here is a part # 955-512-550-06

I will eventually have to do this, as mine are weakening. =(

I need to do this on the Cayenne rear door as well as the frunk on the 996. It looks much, much easier on the 996.

It is best to change the glass struts at the same time as they are all used to hold up the hatch. Better to do it at one time since you are in there anyway. It is not to bad to do but can be time consuming. Good luck.

Ordered all the parts today... Doing all 4 struts "while I'm in there." :)

Are the struts covered under warranty?

Michael S. 11-03-2011 05:06 PM

They are normally covered under the factory warranty... But, that long ago expired! I'm driving naked (even my extended warranty is expired) at 116k miles! I do most of the maintenance myself... Just replaced the plastic coolant pipes earlier this year. At the major service intervals (40k), I have the dealer look it over. So far, so good... It is nice not to have a car payment!
