PCM Phone Module - Is this necessary for Bluetooth Connection?
I consider myself a Techie, but despite reading Porsche's descriptions of the Phone Module Option, I'm confused about whether I need to order it or not on my new Cayenne. I want to be able to connect my iPhone via Bluetooth to PCM.

I don't think that is accurate for 2011/12 Cayenne's. Don't have mine yet but from everything I have seen and read, Bluetooth is part of PCM. So you can make and receive calls, sync your phonebook, and even play Bluetooth audio.

You don't need the telephone module for the bluetooth to work in the 2011 Cayenne. The telephone module will, however, allow you to use a SIM card directly in the PCM and use the car's built in antenna for phone calls. It also allows you to do text messaging and stuff if you have the SIM card loaded in the PCM.

On a new Cayenne you can get Bluetooth.
We specified:
9W1 - Telephone module, and
7T1 - Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including Navigation module.
My iPhone connects to the car via Bluetooth and all of the telephone numbers are accessible from the PCM screen and also via the Multi-Function display within the instrument cluster. The scroll wheel on the steering wheel can select numbers and you can dial without taking your hand off the wheel - which is great.
We also added, UF1 - Universal Audio Interface.
This allows you to plug in a memory stick or iPhone/iPod and play all of the music tracks (mp3's) that are stored. All tracks can be accessed via the PCM screen and also from the Multi-Function display in the instrument cluster.
I use all of these functions pretty much every time I am in the car, and I think they are worth getting.

I bought a 2011 Cayenne with PCM (7T1) option included.
You're saying that Bluetooth is included, but when I press on the "Phone" button from PCM it says always "Phone not available". Do you have ideas what this means?

You must first pair the iPhone to the PCM.
Press the PHONE button
Press the OPTION button or touch the tab of the same name in the header
Select SET PHONE (Bluetooth Settings)
Select ACTIVATE BLUETOOTH
Proceed with the prescribed pairing process. From that point - as long as you have the iPhone turned on and within range - the PCM will automatically recognize and connect.

Thanks for help!

I have it but only use on rural road trips. It requires inserting SIM card into vehicle. Utilizes the antenna and circuitry of the car which significantly improves reception vs iPhone via Bluetooth. Not necessary.

Mine connected just fine after I read the associated section in the Cayenne owner manual. Simple process, much less time consuming than waiting for an Internet answer
