Default Lost Roof Carrier Keys! $660.00?

Okay, anyone ever lost the key to their roof rack bars? Mine were stolen on a ring w/some other keys. The dealer is telling me $660 to replace (bust the 4 locks and rekey).

I'm thinking sawzall and a new set? Any other ideas?

Here is your solution. On the lock core there is a letter and then a few numbers usually three. Once you find the numbers call Thule or go online to Thule site and they will send you the replacement key. I think the keys are about $2.50 each.

Good luck!

Boy, I sure hope it is that easy! I will definately check. If it works I will be pretty pissed at the dealer b/c I asked that very question and they said there was no solution..."well why do they have a code on the outside of the lock if you can't call for a key?"

"I don't know. The last one we did was $660."

Nice.

It is that easy I had an 04 Cayenne turbo that I bought used with no roof rack key. Thule had the key to me in 3 days. Just go online to thule click on car rack system then to buy spare parts and then to keys and you will be all set. Your dealer just doesn't know any better.

Good luck

I lost ours when we had the VW - it's the same rack. The VW dealer turned me on to the Thule trick.

When you resolve this issue I would talk with your dealer's general manager and tell him about the disservice to their customers for not going out of their way to help you and the letter you are writting to PAG reflecting the same above (if that helps).

I would also suggest you tell that service manager to get his head out of his ****....

...after you get that key in hand so you can prove your point. No need to tell them anything now...

You can also order the spare keys from a Porsche dealer using the nr on the locks.
Or get a set of replacement locks and keys.

Yes! I am expecting the keys in the mail today. It was as easy as going to the site but I did call the customer service line just to make sure. Oddly enough, while I was on the phone w/the rep I asked about extra keys for the ski carrier and he said those are not Thule's.

I did mention to the dealer that the keys were available from Thule and they acted like they had no idea. A far cry from the $600 they quoted me to have the locks changed out.

I hope they were just ignorant to the issue but you would think that the service manager would know how to get keys for a Porsche supplied system particularly since the key codes are right there on the outside of the locks.

Thanks to everyone for all your help on this!

I am not surprised, i am a tech for a P-car dealer and I didnt know this... Porsche does not make this info available to us that i know of.

I actually talked to the service tech yesterday about my $1,600 amp replacement and mentioned the key issue. He said that Porsche did not give them this information and all they have done in the past is to bust and replace the lock cylinders. Too bad really.
