Default PCM modifications: compass and off-road

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone know what is involved with the compass and off-road module for the PCM? Is it software (disc) installed or is it something a dealer has to do??

My PCM had these items BEFORE my dealer replaced the PCM and now those options are gone...

This is just a guess but I'd bet they're features activated by the PIWIS (?) tester at the dealer. Let us know when you find out the correct answer, I'm curious.

There is a hardware component. I asked early on and was quoted $1200. A lot of wiring.

There is hardware, software and installation. Finally, you will also need to upgrade your PCM, depending on the model which could require new maps... I did it in conjunction with a failed PCM and saved a couple $. The compass is nice, the offroad has proven to be just a novelty item....

He said the dealer just replaced the PCM, I doubt the dealer also removed the compass and ORM before they gave it back to him. That's why I didn't mention anything about any h/w parts.

The dealer is getting "codes" to reinstall the options that came with my CTT which will then be input with the PIWIS. That's my understanding at this moment but I am out of town and they did not get the answer back to me before I left. I will have to chase them down on this as they NEVER call me back.

Yes, you need IPAS codes (access codes available on from Porsche directly) to install options on Cayennes (like Compass). That is Porsche's way of making sure the dealer is charging for it and not giving it away.
Compass and a few others are built into all the Cayenne's but can only be unlocked with the proper security code (using a PIWIS).
