Default Cayenne to the dealer this a.m., sounds serious

I was driving home from a bike ride yesterday when I got caught in an intersection. Had to floor the beast (all the while counting 1 mississippi, 2 mississippi, lag complete, horses finally kick in) to get through without getting t-boned when I started to hear a loud thumping sound underneath my armrest. I eased up after clearing the traffic and decided to tempt fate once again by flooring it. Once again LOUD thumping coming from underneath the armrest and my first thought was that the transmission was about to drop.

Started her up this a.m. and heard some strange sounds and the whole damn thing started vibrating. So I just decided to drive straight to the dealer. Tried flooring it again to see if the other thumping was there and sure enough, it was. (I wonder how much it costs me everytime I do that, given the $3.81 per gallon I had just paid....) So limped it into the dealer and am now awaiting "The $2000 Call."

I am currently running under the CPO warranty, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Will post what I find out.

Anyone have anything similar?

Burial or cremation for the Cayenne?
Private service or open to the forum members?

I wouldn't think it's a Cardan shaft if it is vibrating with the vehicle running and in Park (if that is how I read it)......

Just did it in my 04S @ 58k miles. Wife says there is a little noise under the armrest. I got in for a test drive and it sounded like a midget under the truck with a hammer. Driveshaft bushing is shot and you have to replace the whole shaft. $700 part. They must all be going cause all the local dealers " just sold the one or two they had in stock". Had to order and overnight from Atlanta. Not a bad install. exhaust comes down. basic bolts on the shaft. IIRC others have said $1300 repair bill from the stealer. I had it done in an hour on a lift. Just a tip if you doing it yourself. Remeber to tighten the bolts on the bushing collar. They come loose from the factory. IMHO, this is not a part that should be failing at 60k miles. Maybe 160k. Crap part.

Ok, you guys were spot-on. I panicked over nothing.

It WAS the Cardan shaft (whatever the hell that is).

It WAS covered under my CPO warranty.

And Scotitude, you nailed it. I also have an 04S with 60K miles and it appears that it is a crap part and anyone reading this with around 60K miles should take note.

I also had 2 more actuator motors replaced.

So life is now a bit better and calls for a fine libation, red in color served in a large glass.
