Buying a 2004 Turbo a few questions
 

I am selling my wifes 2003 G500 and buying her a 2004 Cayenne Turbo w 28K miles for 46K. Is this a good deal? Are there any problems to look for?

I'd say 46K is a good deal. Problems, hard to say. When I first acquired my 04 Turbo new I had a lot of nuisance type problems, air bag light, beam light etc. Nothing major, but I did have to engage the region to get it fixed correctly. As for recalls Porsche has been very good and I did have to have the transfer case replaced due to a recall, no problems so I was not sure of the issue. I have a feeling out of warranty the car will be expensive, but all German cars are. I suggest you find a good repair shop that knows German cars rather than the dealer, way too pricey for everything. I have 42K miles, a number of cross country trips, great driving vehicle, sucks on mileage. Tires do not last long, but no heavy SUV's are record holders on tire mileage, and make no mistake the Cayenne is heavy. All and all it has been a great vehicle, you'll see lots here on the forum, I have had problems but I do not condsider them major.

A) yes, pretty good, if it's a good one (considering current Chicago prices)

B) Plenty. But the list is finite. Just make damn sure you have a good warranty. You'll love the vehicle when they have been worked out.

This is a topic that has almost been banned from the forum, it is so worn out, but do a Search. I think Lewis (ltc) just posted a link to a comprehensive list a couple of weeks ago.

118,000+ miles on our 2004 Turbo, Cardan shaft went, a water pump and coil packs - other than that it's been tires, more tires, brakes and normal service - we got a good one and really enjoy it!! Good luck!! T2

Like T2 says - Cardan shaft (a one-time fix), coils (maybe one-time but others would say otherwise), and a host of weird/annoying gremlins that can be addressed and then pretty much forgotten about. It is possible that the previous owner took care of all of it and you'll have a super-blissful experience. Congrats! What options are you getting for $46k at 28k miles? IMO, if the car is in cherry condition (no scratches or dings inside or out), then you have a good deal. If you have PCM, along with the stuff you need in Chicago (heated everything), then it is an extra good deal. If it has PASM in addition to that, you are stealing the thing, for all intents and purposes. You can get an '05 for a around ten grand more (again if you have a good deal), but it is all a matter of getting the '04 stuff behind you. Then it really doesn't matter.

I'd check the build date and hope it is a late 2003 or 2004 build. Not sure of the recommended cut off date on this forum, but I think it is about 7/03(?). I bought a similar 2004 CTT last year (for a lot more than that). It had a 1/04 build date and has been pretty good so far (except for the air bag light - twice, and a dead battery). Good luck.
