45 minutes...

job done.

Was easier and LESS messy than I thought it'd be. I have pic's that I'll post later for those V6'ers who are curious about what lurks under the plastic skid plates.

Devised a way to deflect the oil into the drain pan so very little mess. A few unexpected twists that'll help me next time.

I'll tell ya, on a rack with dealership tools... this job is <10 minutes. No b.s.!

Didn't have a torque wrench here so guesstimated the drainplug and the filter housing. Housing was hand tight plus about 1 turn, leaving about a fingernail width or two between the plastic housing and the engine block. And drain plug was about hand tight +3/4 turn. Seeing that aluminum pan I wasn't about to crank down on that plug! Used about a half roll of paper towels and left the area cleaner than when I opened her up.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious here, but know for sure on the v6 there is a allen key drain plug on the bottom of the plastic filter housing which, if removed first, drains oil in the filter housing turning a huge potential mess into little or no mess. I use one of those 15 qt divided reservoir things sold at Advance (these are terrific because they reduce splashing), seal it off, and bring the old back to them for disposal. Advance sells the 0-40w too, even here in the rural boonedocks of NC. Not a big deal, maybe 30 min tops wife's V6 or my V8. I hardly drive the V8, changed the oil once in it, and can't recall if it also has the allen keyed filter drain like the v6.

OK... so here's the under view.

Few notes.

1) Only neccessary to remove rear plastic skid plate.

2) 6mm allen plug (silver) in the middle of the oil filter housing allows drainage of oil inside the housing. But in my case when I turned the 6mm allen plug the entire filter housing turned. SO I just loosened up the filter housing until a steady stream of oil flowed out into a drain pan. I left the car for 10 minutes to grab a drink and came back and the housing was empty. It spilled a little oil on the outside of that aluminum drive housing but was easy to wipe off.

3) Oil drain plug in hte foreground faces the rear of the vehicle and is parallel to the ground.

4) took precisely 6 1/2 qts. of M1 0w-40

A better overall view showing the front plastic belly pan still installed. Note filter housing and drain plug in picture.

Almost loooks like my torque converter is leaking or smthg?? A little oil stain down there.

and very little mess. And BTW those Rhino ramps are nice... couldn't have done the job with no ramps. One could do an OIL change with no filter pretty easy... with no ramps but not the filter.
