Roof Cargo Box and Roof Rails Suugestions?

Hi,

I have the factory rails, not the transport system and am planning a long road trip and need a cargo box.

What do you all recommend for a solution? Yakima?? Thule??

Which box? And which cross bars?

Thanks,

Try this one:
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/parkplac.../caroboxi.html

A lockable storage container to increase your luggage capacity an additional 10.59 cubic feet of space. Ample room for suitcases, duffels, &/or odd-shaped cargo. Length 88.5 inch; width 21.2 inch; height 12.5 inch. Easy to install/remove.

000 044 000 35 $715.00

Sunset Imports (Porsche parts at cost + 15%) might have a better price:

See picture at left. I have the Porsche-branded roof box and use it often. We do a lot of travel and it's great for hauling outdoor gear. It has internal removable racks for four pairs of skis. It's made by Thule.

It has special mounts that slide into the slots on the top of the roof bars. It's a two person job to lift the carrier and guide the mounts into the slots. It takes a little practice but after a while you will get good at it.

Yakima works well

I have the Yakima landing pads, cross bars, and 16 cu. ft. cargo box.

Less expensive than the Porsche units... but somewhat of a pain to set up, to get it set right where wind noise is minimized when only the cross bars are on. If you are going to leave the cross bars on year-round, I'm not sure I'd recommend anything but the Porsche unit (assuming that they designed it to minimize wind noise).

Here is a previous post of mine, with a picture:

Just an FYI about noise. The Porsche box does add wind noise but that's what you'd expect when you put a big object on your roof. The noise is tolerable and there are no annoying whistles. The instructions for the roof box tell you where to set your roof bars for proper mounting.

Would the Porsche roof box mount to the transport system? would the increase in height create more road noise, anyone with this type of installation?
(I did my best with the search)

anyone selling a roof box?
Sam
