I wouldn't rec'd it. The factory crest is bolted onto the airbag and if you use one of those aftermarket silver crests they are just held on with double sided tape over the other crest and in the event of an airbag deployment.......LOOK OUT FOR FLYING PROJECTILES!!!

I was. Sold the ML to a buddy of mine and have since moved to the 955 forum now. I sure do miss that forum. Good bunch of ML guys. By the way, what was your screen name over there? The same?

As for the crest. I can't for the life of me figure out where the post was (here or Renntech.org) but it was discussed at length with pics and everything showing how it is bolted to the inside of the airbags o no you can't just remove it easily.

The steering wheel cover will "break away" to the side and the airbag will deploy to protect you. There was a picture posted of a deployed airbag on a 911 board. From the picture, the crest will not become a projectile.

True. The FACTORY one will break away with the cover and stay attached. It is the stick on types that will become projectiles. Not a risk I want to take.

It can be done. It takes patience to get the old one off (using Goo Gone to loosen the glue and a rocker motion with strong filiment to essentially widen the hole in the leather that the post is set in; and a final PULL to break it free. As to the flying projectiles, don't bother with tape, which will loosen. Use Shoe Goo as an adhesive. I have used Shoe Goo in lieu of the rivet/bolt approach on my pedal sets with no problems and a whole lot less work. (Shoe Goo is the anti Goo Gone in its myriad applications.) The silver crest is hard to distinguish from stock, but if you are as **** as I then it has to be done to match the hood crest and wheel crests and clear markers. Leavbe the yellow gold look to MB.
