Default Anyone else had an Airbag Fault?

If yes, what was the reason and remedy.

This will be unscheduled visit number 2. Maybe I can get the damn remotes to work after this coming trip.

TIA

There is a TSB for the airbag warning light.
It's a connector that is triggering the warning.

Mine was set off by some wiring in the seat- a common problem and fixed from a TSB, can't remember the number. Check it out at renntech.org. QUick fix and no problems since.

Same here. Airbag fault fixed in a day per TSB. Also, had some abnormal wear on the rt. rear rotor, which they replaced as well.

Cheers!

Dont sweat it. Its just a connector that isnt connecting properly.Whoever makes the plugs (Bosch?) didnt design this particular one well enough and it can cause it to have an open circuit. The dealership will bypass the plug and solder the connections. In extreme cases which this does not remedy the fault, the side airbags will be replaced...Just one of those things, nothing too major

There are actually two bulletins for this. There is one faults 1217 and 1218 with fault status "Implausible Signal": this bulletin calls for removal of the connectors under both seats. The other bulletin pertains to the same fault codes but with the fault status "Short to ground." In this case the plug connection under both seats are removed AND both side airbags are replaced.

I know what has happened in the past is that some people have had the update done on one side, then the fault occurs on the other side. What did your dealership repair on the first visit?

I have had this problem and service rep at dealer insists that Porsche NA never issued a recall an that the replacement will be at my cost. I suggested he review the TSB and contact PNA, he insisted that the vehicle was out of warranty and there was no recall. NTSB shows reports investigating the problem and the "workshop campaign" to remedy the problem free of charge on affected vehicles. Any advice to get past the $ervice Tech? Dealer is a long time SoCal dealer.

I have had this problem too, 2004 Cayenne V6. The Dealer said that they changed the driver side seat Air Bag while still in warr. but the light came in again and when it came on, it was out of warr. Dealer said they dont have any recalls in this. I found out about the connectors by an Ex tech. from Porsche, and he fix the problem.

I've had a few, 1 was covered even after warranty, another one came on in the passenger seat where almost nobody sat in for the last 8 months. I think it was over $600 to fix, they replaced the air bag.
Didn't look like the seat was even touched and everythime the car shows an issue with the airbag they suppose to peel some sticker to document this in your service book which I asked for them to do and they didn't.
I think my local dealer is going belly under.

I had this problem on me 03. Cut out the plug as they suggest under the seat. Still had the fault. Traced the seat wiring further back to find that the seat loom had been chafing on the seat subframe. Ended up removing the the whole seat. Soldered the wire and have now cable tied the loom under the seat leaving some slack for the seat to move or course. Reset the airbag. Problem gone. Maybe the the original problem was the loom not the plug after all. Removing the plug will naturally pull the loom away from the seat subframe
