I use M1 0W-40 and changes per Porsche recommendations (20K miles IIRC).

I don't believe there are any other options besides OEM pads at the moment. A member of this forum, tkerrmd, is the current expert on Cayenne brake options, a search or PM would be my next step.

How come I'm used to changing my oil every 3k? Wouldn't you think that a high performance engine such as this should burn more oil?

I just brought my CTT in today for service. It has 10K miles and they said I should have an oil and filter change. I was going to have them do it anyway. 20K miles just seems too long to me. Maybe it's a waste of money but it will let me sleep better.

I do it every 10k. If you look thru the Rennlist archives you will find tons of info about the 3k oil change myth. Today's oils with their complex additive packages can easily last the 20k miles.

Lewis is right about the oil changes no benfit at intervals shorter than Porsche recommends. However, heavy towing, off roading, or DE,s most of us are just obsessive enough to probably decrease the intervals.
As for brake pads, I have contacted several Companies, and they are in the process of creating "performance" pad, ie better braking for decending while towing or occassional DE's. In the mean time, must tell you, there are several Pads advertised as "upgrade" pads which are in fact just OEM pads so be careful. Until my 911S arrives (next year!!) I will continue to DE my cay and keep the forum updated on how this truck tolerates some track time!

Tom,
How many miles do you get out of your brake pads?

I have 20,000miles on the cay and Im on my third set of front brakes and second set of rotors....dont panic! Ive done ten!! DEs and four autocrosses. I love driving this thing fast and my pad and rotor wear are not reflective of normal daily use. Other members on this forum should respond for "normal" pad wear, Im the wrong guy to ask,

I seem to remember that most new car manuals seem to add a small but important caveat to the oil change intervals: 1) Severe Service, defined as stop and go traffic and/or trips of short duration and 2) Cars that are not driven the annual milage interval should go no longer than 1 yr before oil changes.

tkerrmd,

I am in suncoast too. It is pretty funny at the DE events because they have to modify the passing signal speech to include "the gentlemen in the Cayenne" :-). I could definately see you doing 10 DEs. I have missed quite a few. You have been at all the ones I have been to in the last 1.5-2 years it seems.

So far as pad changes it took about 12k miles in streets of San Francisco. Still running on original rotors but definitely feeling the outside ******* of the rotors maybe 3-5k more miles on rotors. Oil changes I try 7500 miles each time. Car has 13500 now and still doing great. Regards. Mike

Are the brake pads as easy to change as the "big reds"? Is there a single pin on the back of the caliper? Never changed mine but it seems like it's time.

We change ours "by" about 8.5 months - one quart (month) at a time.
