I had anR100RS. I had to Bail on K75. May 30th a guy ran me into a pole, damned near killed me.

Still healing w broken shoulder and some ribs. My bride forbids me from riding (we'll see ;-)).

Tried retirement, couldn't do it. Best of luck w your's.

I'm thinking about buying a Cayenne V6, how much do the oil changes cost and the services cost? Do most ppl do their own oil changes? or do you take the car to the dealer?

Default Oil Change

Considering that the first oil change is scheduled for 2 years and/or 20K miles, I'm not too worried about cost. I'm sure it will be completely rediculous. My Boxster ran around $250 per oil change.

If the cost of an oil change is a key decision point for you, don't buy a Porsche.

Changing the oil and filter on the tt is very similar to other vehicles. The only notible exception is two drain plugs versus one.

So, someone comfortable with performing this service should have no problem with the Cayenne.

Just as long as the $250 oil change wasn't for every 3,000-5,000 miles then i'm fine with it. Plus I guess, i'm spoiled with BMW's and Mercedes free services.

The free Mercedes service was discontinued for MY '05, but yes it WAS nice.

The oil change is specified for 2 years or 20,000 km, not miles. That translates to 12,427 miles.

Many owners, including myself, will change the oil more frequently.

You might like to leave the breakin oil in until the car tells you to change...

Is there a way of resetting the oil change indicator if you change the oil yourself, or do you need to buy a $2,000 tool to do this?

Ha....

Knowing PGA, I'll bet a nickle you'll need a tool of that cost. My guess is, they have an engineer locked in a room designing these "Rube Goldberg" devices.

It may reset itself when you change the filter, like others do. You ask a good question. I found no way to check the frequency of change. Now I'm interested in how the "change" order is stimultated (by pressure?? - thick oil = higher pressure)..

Just to bring this up from the dead,
No such thing as a semi synthetic base Mobil Euro 0-40 oil.
In Europe there is only exisistance of it formula in Deisel formula.

Dealer does not have this break-in oil and can't find any part number to it.
I looked on Mobil 1 web site, they only list 0-40 Super Synthetic European car formula.

So if our cars are specified to use 0-40 and I am down a 1 gt. at 3400 miles, what do I use?

Had the dealer call Porsche and there is no list of a break-in 0-40?

Little confused so if someone would like to show me some guidence that would be great.

Thanks.

Default oil change at 20,000 miles/30,000 kilometers or by 2 years

Wingless, I went back to my manual and here is the scan. It does state first oil change is at 20,000 miles or 2 years. I have received a wide array of responses but have chosen to wait until 20k which will be in about 30-60 days.

Vino... There was a lawsuit (complaint) brought against the US governing body that oversees oil labeling (europe has stricter labeling). Castrol found a way to manipulate dino oil to fall under the Synthetic oil label and its cheaper to make. Mobil was pissed and they lost the fight. The article said Mobil would use the same formula manipulation for their Syn oil in the US.

Perhaps they now ID the true synthetic as super synthetic. It's good advice to add that (Euro product) to the existing breakin oil.

Last year some credable sources had info from PAG that they used a special factory only supplied breakin oil (it may not be available in the aftermarket).

TSB 1701, dated 5/23/03 defines the oils that are acceptable to use in the Cayenne. There are eight Castrol oils listed as acceptable.
