Default Generic DIY advice on belt, idlers, pulleys, etc.?

Seeking noob advice on when and if I should replace drive belt and various pulleys etc.

I have to replace the power steering pump, and plan to replace the water pump.

“While I’m in there” I thought I might do the drive belt just because…

is there any good sense in proactively doing idlers, tensioner, tensioner shock, etc.? How would I tell if they are near end of life or otherwise warrant replacement?

thanks!

yes, imma noob. Assume the only belt I’ve changed was a v-belt on a 1967 air-cooled VW, using a screwdriver to pry it off… 20+ years ago…

…and that I have read the pelican and alldata guides…

thanks in advance!
