Default Turbo bad? 06 CTTS

Does this picture look like a normal amount of oil around the turbo outlet on driver’s side?

I know it’s normal to have some oil in the lower tube going to the intercooler but I’m surprised it appears to be leaking out of the tube going to the air box.

After more research I have convinced myself that this is likely normal oil coming from the crank case breather tube. However maybe I have a bad o-ring somewhere since it seems to be leaking out of the tubes. Does anyone have pictures of their driver’s side turbo? Does it look like mine with oil on it?

When was the last time you emptied the accumulated oil in the driver's side intercooler?

I’m not sure when it was done previously, I bought the cayenne 12 months ago...however I did empty it out yesterday and it only had about 1/2 cup of oil, not as much as I expected.

That shielded plastic pipe has an o-ring that hardens, leaving oil mist in that exact area. I did a full PCV refresh at 140,000 miles, which included replacing this pipe pictured.

That makes sense, do you know if I can just buy the o-rings? The breather pipes are $100-$150 each and there are three of them in that series.

Also, do you think the same leak could be misting oil up in this area?

It looks like it is time to replace all your turbo plumbing o-rings. It is not a difficult job.

I had quite a mess like that in my CTT. I was able to degrease everything when I had the whole thing apart for alternator replacement. At the same time I did the water pump, all pulleys, tensioner, intercoolers, o-rings, etc. It took several rounds of Simple Green and a lot of brushing and scrubbing. I did all of the o-rings and it has been a while now. Things are staying nice and clean now.

Thank you, that thread was very helpful. Do you also know how I can get the small diameter o-rings that are used on the breather pipes so that I do not have to buy all of the pipes?

Another question on alternators after reading your thread...I have a 2006 CTTS and it appears to have had alternator part number 948 603 015 03 installed originally...I have found that alternator from Porsche Delaware for $601. I have also read that 948 603 015 05 replaced it but it is $2,170 from Porsche Delaware of as low as $1,342 from Sunset Porsche. Additionally I see that you used 948 603 015 EX when you replaced your alternator in a 2005 CTT which is now $497 from Sunset Porsche...Do you know what the difference is between these part numbers?

One last question. Why did you replace your intake distributor (955-110-046-50)? Was it proactive due to some known failure?

I believe the pricey, CTTS Alternators are 110Ah.... as opposed to the 95Ah S/Turbo Alternators

The smaller ones I have been able to source from a large o-ring kit I have in my garage. If you can't find a porsche part number for those, I would recommend measuring them and contacting a supplier.

As far as the alternator goes, I found that when it came down to it, the only alternator I could really find from dealers was the 948 603 015 EX part. They had the others listed, but you could not even order them. I believe the EX means that it is marked as remanufactured, but when I gave mine a good look it appeared brand new to me. I do not know what the part difference is, but I will tell you there is a lot of confusion at the dealerships between what pigtails you will need and which water coolant adapters are necessary. It all seems very poorly documented by Porsche and poorly understood by the dealer parts counters which adds to the fun.

The intake distributor (like much of the other low grade plastic on this car) is known for cracking along the seams and causing boost leaks. I figured since I was doing all the other work I would address every known issue while I was in there. For the cost of the part it was worth it to me to avoid one more potential hassle and maintain top notch performance as long a possible.

Thank you for all of the replies. My list of things to replace proactively is growing rapidly.
