Default Help needed for Airbag removal on steering wheel

Hello all

Can someone help me with the removal of the airbag from the steering wheel.

I have the wheel vertical as in the pic attached. Then I get the screwdriver into the rear of the wheel where the hole is but for the life of me I cannot either feel the clip on the inside so I try moving the screwdriver around while pulling slightly on the front of the airbag but nothing is happening.

Can anyone give me any advice? it would be greatly appreciated.

Wheel at 90 degrees

Hole where i'm putting the screwdriver

Screwdriver in but nothing happening

This worked for me to figure out how to move the screwdriver once in:

Once you unlatch one side I'd recommend to hold it away from the steering wheel - with another screwdriver e.g. - to avoid it going back in while you pry on the other side.

Solved it - the handle on the screw driver was getting in the way and not getting me enough leverage to move the clip so I used a teaspoon instead - putting the flat end into the hole allowed me to get enough leverage on the clips on the inside to free it up.

If anyone else has this issue just to let you know that when you have the steering wheel vertical you are trying to lever the clip on inside the steering wheel upwards to the roof.

The battery should also be disconnected for this procedure.

Yeah, maybe not, but for fun watch some videos of people being "popcorned" using auto airbags and decide how much fun one of these deploying accidentally will be.

Battery disconnect not necessary. Only broken circuit crash sensor is what triggers SRS deployment. Porsche completely thought this through...

Nope. A short on the trigger wires that come from the crash sensor you reference will do the exact same thing, so why risk it when it's one nut on the ground strap at the front of the driver's seat.

Having never looked at the WSM for steering wheel removal, I'd almost guarantee that steps 1 and 2 in the process is to set the parking brake and disconnect the battery.
