Default Had a rims straightened and now the ENTIRE rim is warped

Hi.

Had a bent bent rim that I got straightened by Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists. Cayenne went in for service and the dealer told me that the rim was not bent, but rather the entire thing was twisted/warped, and that their wheel repair guy could not repair it. They said the warping was so bad that the road force balancing machine shook.

Is it worth going back to Alloy Wheel Repair and trying to have them straighten it out again, or would you all go ahead and replace the rim?

If so, would you trust buying a rim like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-Cay...IAAOSwoFZaxhuq

Or would you stick to a brand new rim from the factory?

Thank you,
Charles

Buy one from Wheel Enhancement or a similar reputable business that deals in new and used OEM Porsche wheels.

They refer to that as a "Barrel Bend" when basically the hub is no longer true to the "barrel".

It is not repairable.

I would hop on my local classifieds and find a set locally. At least around where I am, there are always people selling full sets with tires for quite cheap.

Yup I have a tracker for Touareg/Q7 wheels as they are often not subject to the Poorsche Tax™

AWRS does claim:
Not every wheel SHOULD be repaired

Consumer safety is our FIRST priority

Our technicians use definitive criteria to determine if a wheel is safe to repair

Trained & certified technicians follow approved repair processes

It's a crapshoot. One time I had all 4 wheels done and powder coated a color I thought was correct. Then I had a minor accident and a single rim got damaged. I took it to the same shop and they re-did it - now a different shade of silver. As it turns out the first time the color was not standard and they were not able to match it again, and I was stuck with a set of wheels where one was not same color as the other three and that I spent far more on than they were worth in current condition (the 3 were now essentially custom painted).

Next time I'm going with a new set from some repeatable source. Rim repair industry left a sour taste in my mouth.

AMEN 100%! I did the same and purchased a reconditioned wheel that allegedly meets insurance industry standards for factory replacement... NOPE! Paint did not match factory silver and the inside of the wheel was not properly painted or cleared. So now I have a Volvo with 3-1 wheels as well. What a joke!

My advice is to hit CL or Ebay for a good condition factory take off that has not been messed with at all.

Devil's advocate, they probably painted it with factory paint and didn't do a single shred of blending/color match lol.

I don't know. If they used the same factory color the differences really shouldn't be enough to notice between wheels that are so far apart. Blending matters for adjacent body panels but your eyes won't notice past that.

That sounds more like they just winged it with "it looks Silver. Any generic Silver is good enough"

Also true. I just assume that wheel paint is aged far faster than body paint and it would show stark differences.

Ah the "I don't get paid enough for this ****" creed of the DGAF worker <3

Or, "welp, I already have silver in my paint gun from the last silver rim, why wasted perfectly good silver cleaning the gun" type of thing. Either way, you get the idea.

In my case, the silver on the originally refurbished wheels was of the sparkly metallic silver types, whereas the "new" silver was not metallic at the slightest. So even a color blind person would probably be able to tell that somebody somewhere f-ed up, even when the rims were feet apart on the car.
