I just realized what I'm going to do with the next car I sell...
Hide something very ordinary in a very strange place. (insert 'evil laugh' here)
There's an old skydiving joke that if you are going in, you've done everything you can but nothing has worked, at the last second reach down yank a shoe off and shove it down the front of your jumpsuit.
It won't change the outcome any, but it will drive everyone nuts trying to figure out how that got there.

Hmmm, that didn’t work.
Well, it was a picture of a formula 1 car spraying small rocks everywhere from a gravel trap/run off area.
are you sure it was a rodent? Any fur or old food?

Nothing to say it was a rodent except that you'd have to be to get in there carrying a rock...

After driving across a fresh patch of 'chip-seal' (where liquid tar is sprayed, then small gravel spread on top to resurface a road), I found the little rocks everywhere. Because some had the tar on them, they stuck quite well to just about any surface they touched.
But I can't imagine how rocks could have gotten to the V of the motor. If the belly pans were on, they would have a hard time getting up from under. Through the radiator? Anywhere else?
I think "Previous owner with a weird sense of humor' makes as much sense as anything else.
