Default 2006 Cayenne Roof Rack Side Rails

Morning all. Recently picked up an '06 Cayenne. It has the factory side rails on the roof. I'd like to remove them. From what I can see, it's fairly straightforward, but I'm wondering if anyone else has done this. I'm concerned that with them removed, it will just be like having two gutters on the roof, collecting water and rusting. Thoughts?

I just removed mine last weekend. Took me 20 minutes to do it. You just need to remove the 3 round caps on each side of the rails. Use a tiny screw driver or a pick to remove the caps either at the 12 o’clock or six o’clock position. The rubber caps are actually oval in shape inside and gradually increase in thickness as you go towards the tail. Then you need to unscrew the 3 towers with torx screw, wiggle the rails and off it will go.

That's very helpful. I got the rails off, but couldn't figure out how to get the three towers off. Did realize you need to unscrew those as well (my garage is dark, so I couldn't see.) Will give it another shot today.

Sounds good. They are coming off today. Might be interested in getting rid of them.

Welcome to the forum Chris,

If you want to advertise them on Rennlist - you must be a PAID member, and post them in the for-sale forum. You then can bring a link back to the tech forum to the ad in the FS forum.

Hope that helps!

BTW - if you're going to give them away - feel free to tell all..

FYI: OEM rails are very expensive. I kept mine for storage.

For that price you could always have them anodized black (or powdercoated).
My factory rails seem to made of plastic. I would go this route if I ever had to replace them.

I have two factory sets for sale.

1 silver and removable from the tracks, tracks not included.
1 set black and designed to be left in place but also removable. Black tracks included. The track brackets are the difference between the two. Both Porsche OEM.
