Stuck in 4lo even after trans case motor replacement
Hey Fellas,
While running my 04 CTT through its paces (testing the suspension and 4wd), it got stuck in 4lo and the 4wd faulty light came on. Since I haven't used 4lo in awhile, I ordered a used transfer case motor and put it on the car but no luck. Took the motor off and visually verified that it is moving. The car will go into longitudinal lock but won't come out of 4lo. I put a wrench on the shaft coming out of the transfer case and was able to move it forward into longitudinal lock, but when moving it backwards to come out of 4lo, it seems stuck. Is there a way to jimmy the car back to normal 4wd? On my other truck, rocking it forward and backwards usually helps but the cayenne locks out the gear controls while the 4wd system is shifting. Can you guys offer some guidance on how to troubleshoot this/get the car out of 4lo? Thanks :surr: |
this happened to Hoovsie.

The switch in the car go bad as well. That would be my next place to look.
can you reverse it for 10-15 feet, stop, put in neutral and then try it? |
Read you can go fast in reverse and hit the brakes.

Was able to get it out of 4lo manually. The car shifts itself back to 4lo though, so I’m thinking either the switch or the control unit has gone bad? |

You have to have a PIWIS to diagnose this correctly. Good news is that the Contol Unit does not need to be coded. Just plug and play. The FSM says you need to delete the adaptation values after replacement. I have no idea what happens if you do not. |
Mine does the same exact thing, I'm about to replace the switch and control unit in mine, I did the servo motor already, stuck in 4wd low, car can only go about 35mph without the RPMs being sky high. Control unit comes today, let's see if this fixes it.

Good to know. I have also ordered a switch and control unit off eBay to swap in. Will report back with the results. |
Good to hear!
I’m waiting on the parts in the mail, thanks for the tip! |
The control module also fixed the issue for me. |

That is an interesting failure mode. Glad it was a simple fix. Are you going to open the old module to see what you can see? Would love some pictures.

I chucked the old module before seeing this, sorry!
