Windshield Washers Won't...
Do the job. Just started on our trip only to discover the windshield washers have decided to take a vacation. 2009 Cayenne Turbo.
Topped off the reservoir, when activated, they briefly spray the headlights then quit. non spray onto the windshield...did a quick search here to see if this was already documented and didn't find any significant hits. Anyone have this happen and discover the cure before I look closer into this after we get back home this weekend? TIA- |
Google will show there is a tool you can order or maybe grab at an autozone to clean them. It’s just a little pick that you push through them. |
The quick spray onto the headlights is normal. It only activated under certain conditions if I recall correctly. As for the windshield, I'd take a close look at the spray jets for obvious signs of clogging. Then I'd remove the hose attached to the jets themselves and operate the washers from inside the car to see if the pup itself causing fluid to reach the end. Trace it all back from there.

On the 955 the headlight system is on a separate pump.

Could also be the pump like mine was.

These systems sometimes have little pressure check valves in the lines that have a little ball in them. The purpose is that the fluid force moves the ball out of the way when activated and the fluid comes through. Once the pressure is removed, the ball seals the lines to prevent the fluid from running back to the reservoir and taking a couple seconds to come out the next time you activate the washers. I've seen these balls swell up to where the obstruct the check valve almost completely. (Insert blue washer fluid an balls joke here.)
If the Cayenne has these you need to replace the check valve or eliminate it with a barb connector. Eliminating it will mean you have to hold the stalk an extra second before you get fluid. |
Have you tried taking a pin or sewing needle and inserted it into the spray tubes? Wax and debris can some times clog them. Just did my wife’s A6 since zero was coming out of the passenger side. You can also use the same to re-aim the spray area. |
Try to narrow it down a little. If there is a large puddle of washer fluid under the car you have a detached pipe. No fluid = no detached pipe. Any noise from the washer pump? No noise - Could be a fuse or the pump itself. Pump is an easy fix but a bit fiddly. (VW washer pump just pops in no tools required). However you need to remove the wheel and plastic liner to access the reservoir. As stated above the headlight system is different pump and pipes (same reservoir though). |
Mine just croaked. Headlights spray fine. Windshield is dead. I got the pump for ~$60 and will install this weekend.
