Looks like the wiring is to put it in boot mode so they can reprogram.

I did not have to go into the settings and program. I simply started the vehicle ad drove it and when i stopped and turned the engine off and locked the doors the chirp was working!

Sorry to revive the post from the dead, but recently bought a turbo and only came with 1 key. Knowing my luck, I figured it's better to have a spare key just in case - dealers wanted 550+ for a new one. A local key place asking 375+ tax for a non-OEM key. If it was an OEM key for 300ish, I think I'd pay but for 550 I'm not sure... I might as well use my AAA to get the porsche unlocked at that point LOL. What's the cheapest solution? I was thinking maybe just buying a cheap keyfob and the get the key cut to use as an "emergency" key to manually open the car?

Aftermarket replacement keys can be purchased for less than $50 but they must be programmed. It isn't hard to program the keys yourself if you have a few tools and a bit of technical ability. Full procedure is given here: https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...lty-tools.html

Ebay aftermarket keys look like junk, but they will program in and work - range not as good as OEM, but works. The last couple letters on the key part.. BN, BQ, BL, AN, ect. will all work in slot if reflashed by KeyDIY, Keytool, Ect.

My local automotive locksmith guy says he can get me a key for $150 cdn all in, (~$120 US, fwiw), but cannot do a Fob.

That might work- in an emergency or for a few months after.

My local dealer say $300 CDN pls shop supply (!) and tax to program a fob from online if it works or not. I am in a somewhat low population area served by only one dealer. Another is 3h 10min away. No indy's will program a key.

I am leaning to the locksmith guy. Thoughts?

I bought a key on eBay and had it cut by a locksmith. Then I dirtied it up and took it to my local dealer and told him that I'd had this key, but it had never worked. He coded it for $150.

Can someone that has already purchased a 2nd Porsche Cayenne key recommend an Ebay or other aftermarket key that actually is programable and works good (after a few weeks/months of use)? Seems there is lot of negative feedback on eBay from buyers saying the aftermarket keys aren’t programmable or they actually get it cut and programmed but new key still doesn’t work.

My local Locksmith had agreed to cut an aftermarket key for $20 but said they won’t program it. Local Porsche dealer said they will program the aftermarket key for $150 but they can’t cut the key.

So if I can find a decent aftermarket key for under $50 I might be able to get a 2nd key for under $230.

As a quick update for the Atlanta market, Hennessey Porsche required that I purchase the key from them and quoted me, before tax, $508 for the key and cut, and $112 (1/2 hour labor) to program. After a few quick calls, I found a locksmith (Cobb Parkway Locksmith 404-304-1181) who, everything included for $450, came to my house within 2 hours, and within an hour provided me a fully functioning original looking (sans Porsche logo) key. The locksmith told me the blank key comprised $50 of the $450 cost. I felt the cost was worth it because I 1) avoided the dealer price premium, 2) de-risked the chance of buying an Ebay key that might not fully function or look correct, and 3) I saved a lot of time. Time will tell if the key wears well and is of decent quality.

I bought an official uncut 955 Porsche key from Rusnak in Westlake Village, CA. They had a clearance sale. I dont know how common that is.

I tried to have my local dealer program it, but. they refused since I did not procure it from their parts department! Porsche NA said they should still do it, especially since it was purchased from an official dealer.
