Question New Bore Scoring Survey 955/957, 2003-2010

http://bit.ly/CayenneFailures

I think it addresses some of the shortcomings of the prior "poll".. this is for 955/957 V8 owners who have experienced a failure AND those who have not. Please take a look.

Thanks for setting that up.

Since the topic keeps coming up - I kind of wonder if this shouldn't be a sticky. And include information on the issue, how to diagnose it, why it happens, and so forth.

No issues with my 2005 Cayenne Turbo with 76k miles. Just had Blackstone Labs do an oil analysis and they said everything looked perfect.

Edit: I tried to share my Blackstone labs report in this thread but rennlist isn't allowing the upload for some reason. No time to mess with it.

This 100%. A sticky full of FACTS would be amazing.

I added surveys for my 3 past/present CTTs. 04, 05, 06 CTTS without scoring issue. I also have a 70k mile 04 CTT that I will be parting out that is also without cylinder scoring issue.

Also I know of 2 more 955 CTTs with E81 powerkit personally that have not had any issues. Ones has 110k miles and the other has like 80k.

If oil could be related to the cylinder scoring, it seems like the survey should include the type of oil everyone uses and the frequency of oil changes?

Do a screen capture with something like Jing and save it to your desktop as a photo, then upload it the regular way (clicking the landscape button) or click on the paperclip and upload the PDF, which will put a link at the bottom of your post. You can't upload a PDF with the photo button.

Great survey, Don. Thanks for doing this.

I am in the camp with you that the number of failures is probably ~1%. I'm glad that you added the MY to the mix as I suspect many of them will probably be from MY 2008. One additional question that would be useful, particularly on the Turbo cars: "Was your vehicle modified to enhance HP/TQ (ie. modified ECU, turbos, etc...) in any way at the time of failure? (Sorry LupoSK!) Any modifications like these should be eliminated from the results.

Cheers,
TomF

Moving this up to a sticky, and un-sticking the other one...

Tom, I've added this question in the page where people report their failures. If LupoSKI and yourself can reopen your reports (I think that'd doable - if not let me know) and edit them that would be useful!

With 45 people reporting in:

The entry point to the survey - everyone answers the first question. The 2nd question only appears to people who have experienced a failure - what mileage did the failure happen at.

What did you do about the engine? And if you didn't fix it - what did you do with your Cayenne?

This continues reporting on the failure engines. Were you happy with Porsche after this - and were there any performance modifications to the engine?

If you have NO FAILURE to report - what mileage does your Cayenne currently have on it, and what do you think about the reported failures?

Final Questions - everyone gets these. What year is your Cayenne and what engine does it have?

What do you think should be done about the failures?

I haven't promoted this survey in the 958 forum, but I am thinking about making an identical copy of it - (more or less.. they all have 4.8L engines) restricted to the 958 V8's. I suspect it might be somewhat anticlimactic - since I haven't heard of a single failure reported here of a 958 V8 engine with bore problems. Not to say it hasn't happened - but it has never come up on Rennlist that I can find.
