My understanding is that this engine code is on the list of 'good ones' in this thread. And yet I had fatal scoring at 63,000 miles. (Euro 2007 CTT)...
This case is interesting. The engine code does indeed fall within the list of structurally honed cylinder engines, but the MY of 2007 is off. I suspect that there is definitely more to this than we have info for. The engine shouldn’t have been manufactured in 2006-7 based on the code. Was this a replacement engine for an earlier failed one that had smooth honed cylinders?

We need more info. Please post any more info that you have. Was the engine replaced at some time? Are you sure the block is original? Based upon what you said, the engine failed but you just looked at the trunk sticker. I expect that means that you still have the car- did you have it rebuilt or is it still DOA? Do you have all the records for the vehicle since new?

The more info the better. Thanks!

Cheers,
TomF

To the best of my knowledge, this was the original engine. I still have the car, as it now has, to all intents and purposes, a brand new engine with 2-year warranty from Porsche. I have the service manual since new (I bought the car used with 62K miles on the clock). It has always been maintained by Porsche in France and italy and there is no record of an engine replacement (until the one I just had done).

I am the second owner of this '07 CTT with 123,000 KM (63,000 miles). Never lived in cold climate, dealer maintained.

Finally got the indy to scope cylinder 8 and sure enough, another one for the 'scored cylinder' list.
Expecting a quote by Friday on the 2 options:
- rebore and resleeve the cylinders and replace the pistons
- find a used replacement block

Any other ideas/suggestions, I am open to them.
Note: my profile says Daly City, CA, because I can't figure out how to reset it to a new country. I am based in the Netherlands now, near Amsterdam...
For clarity, I am including your introductory comments from the other thread. It sounds like you purchased the car at 62k miles and at 63k suffered a the issues described above. I'm very sorry for your misfortune! Can you post the manufacturing date for your vehicle? Even better, post a pic (or PM it) of your trunk sticker. Feel free to black out the VIN if that concerns you.

Your case could really help us better understand what is happening in many of these situations. As posted in the other thread, it would be extremely valuable to know what improvements, if any, that Porsche made to the crate engine you were able to purchase.

Again, if privacy is a concern, please PM me or I can PM you my email address.

Thanks for your assistance to all of us Cayenne owners!

Cheers,
Tom

For what its worth, my failure free 2008 GTS has 9PA AL1 and production date of April 2008 or so.

Maybe we should add that code to the database to help narrow down the failure source

Great info! Can you post or PM me the last five digits of your VIN... it should be all numbers. My 2009 TTS is: 81348. It would be very useful. Thanks.

Cheers,
Tom

I just submitted the poll. Mine's a 2004 4.5 Turbo with 152,00 miles. No engine bore issues that I'm aware of. Engine code is 9PAAF1. I figure that I'm in the clear, if it was going to occur I think it would have by now.

Default Submitted poll

Also just submitted the Poll. I have no issues. Have the car for 2 years now, Did a PPI on buying it including camera inspection (only from the top). Car is now approaching 120K miles (180K km). 2007 4.8S Engine code 9PA AH1 Manufactured 2007/02. So based on the list above the engine "should" be in the OK range. Either they started the structure honing process earlier or the list of engines is not correct. Mine has definitely the original engine. I do have roughness on idle but according to my indy (highly reputised in the Porsche racing scene) it is due to a valve sensor and nothing to worry about nor worth the investment at the moment to have it fixed. Will do that once we schedule a major service.

There are currently 122 responses to the survey. I think I've now set it so you can see the charts/text responses. Let me know if there is any problem doing that..

I added surveys for my 3 past/present CTTs. 04, 05, 06 CTTS without scoring issue. I also have a 70k mile 04 CTT that I will be parting out that is also without cylinder scoring issue.

Also I know of 2 more 955 CTTs with E81 powerkit personally that have not had any issues. Ones has 110k miles and the other has like 80k.
Let me know if you still have the 2004 Turbo engine. I may need another soon.

How do you view the results? When I click the original link, it only wants to give me the survey again.
