Default Valve Body Questions Please?

2005 CTT with 115k miles and the valve body is starting to go. Research shows I can get a rebuilt for ~$1200 but I'm a bit nervous about replacing it myself. What should I expect to pay at an Indy? Anyone one in the Colorado or surrounding area that could replace it? Thanks in advance for your help and feedback!

Have you tried changing the transmission fluid before investing in a valve body?

I did the valve body replacement myself using the Revmax reman valvebody. The valvebody was about $600 if I recall and I replaced the fluid, filter, etc. Replacing the valvebody should only take about 1 hr extra in labor than doing a fluid & filter change. Total job should be about 3 hrs for an Indy do do the fluid, filter, valvebody swap.

Thanks for the feedback at DIYDan... From everything I read, I have the symptoms of a bad Valve body. Do you thing changing the trans fluid could fix the hard shift between 2nd and 3rd gear?

Thanks for the feedback 95_993! The remix valve body I saw was $1200. Does that sound right?

$1200 sounds too high. It should be around $600-$700 with core swap.

This is what I found at Revmax. 1199 minus 500 core charge = 699
https://revmaxconverters.com/product...ed-valve-body/
When I did the valve body on my 06 CTTS revmax wanted the number off the valve body as there are a couple of slightly different version. I think the 05's are all the same. Call and find out. They were very helpful when I called.

Hi James1911, I also live in Arvada and I have an '04 CTT with 117k miles. I've scheduled Cottman (in Arvada) to R&R the transmission to replace the torque converter seal and while they are at it, install the JTR aluminum replacement coolant Ts next week. I have also noticed harsh shifts from time to time I considered the RevMax Valve Body since it is only another $699 + $80 shipping. Some bad news here is that the core is not the $500 their site advertises but $750. Just a "heads up" on that. Then Cottman wanted an additional $412.50 to do the valve body swap so at an additional $1191.50 I chose to try the fluid swap first. I'll let you know how the CTT shifts when they are done. I just wanted to let you know that I live in your area and am having similar work done. Thanks, Joel

Hi Joel928s4! Thanks for connecting... so glad to hear there is another CTT in the neighborhood. Would love to keep in touch and share CTT experiences, ideas and suggestions. Would love to a picture of your CTT? I will PM you my email address. Thanks again and I look forward to your feedback next week!

Another her from Arvada, living near by. I have a 2004 CTT with occasional rough shifts from 5 to 4th in auto mode if you have partial throttle and a little load on the engine, shift is fine if you lift while manual shifting.

I used a Revmax valve body on my 2005 C S. It solved the shift problem. I did it myself. Took a few hours and was very easy to do. I do have a lift so that made it very simple.
