09 Cayenne Bose System Cutting Out
I'm having an issue with my 09 CTTS. Its equipped with the Bose system and the speakers will occasionally cut out. It usually doesn't happen while I'm driving. It tends to be - I'll start the car and the speakers won't work for the rest of that drive. If I park the car and leave it for a few hours, the next start they'll start working again (or maybe not. Depends on their mood). When the speakers do cut out, the subwoofer is still working and the PCM unit appears to be working fine, I can change volume, change stations, tune XM, FM, AM etc just fine.
The PCM was replaced by the dealership with a new unit from Porsche a few months back so I'm assuming that is fine. My best guess is that the amplifier is dying.
Based off my Googling it appears the amplifier for the speakers and the subwoofers is a single unit. Internally I'm assuming its probably divided up into two sections though. From what I understand it should be connected via the MOST network so the fact that the subwoofers keep working, seems to suggest that the MOST link to the amplifier is fine and the issue is internal to the amplifier itself.
Some questions:
- Is it coded to the vehicle? Will I have to get the dealership to install it?
- Are amplifiers from 08 cars compatible with the 09's?
- Should I just sell my almost brand new PCM and use that money to pay for an aftermarket replacement + amplifier?

There are two amps if you have the Bose system.. one located in the starboard side rear compartment behind the carpeted door, in a rack. About impossible to R&R without disassembling the side panel. PITA job.
The other one is part of the subwoofer system under the spare tire. Easier to replace. But usually only fails if it gets flooded.
The rack mounted one is the one I've seen most mentioned as failing due to thermal issues. It's the same amp as is used on other year Cayennes (probably '06-10) and in some of the Boxster/Cayman/911 cars. Searching for it by the numbers on it should turn up some used ones. They're often seen on eBay.
As far as selling the brand new PCM - I doubt if there is really any big market for it when people can go the Android route much cheaper. The decision is up to you, but I wouldn't expect to get a lot for a 2.1 version PCM even if it was brand new.

Its a 3.0 PCM and I see a few listed on Ebay for $600 to $1000. Which isn't too far off from the price of the Android units + accessories. But you're right - not a big market and who knows if it would sell.
